1. Prepare Your Tomato Seeds

To grow great-tasting tomatoes, you'll need to purchase some high-quality seeds. Tomato heirloom seeds are a popular choice because they're organic, easy to grow, and come in several varieties.

2. Raise the Plants in a Warm Area

Before you can plant in your garden, you'll need to plant the seeds in little containers first and raise them indoors for a while. An ideal location is in a greenhouse or inside your house by a window that gets enough sunlight.

Transplanting Tips:

• Plant in an area that gets 7 hours of daily sunlight.• Use good soil with plenty of organic matter in it.• Bury ½ or ¾ of the plant for better support.• Leave 30-48 inches of space in between the plants

to discourage diseases.• After transplanting, feed a gallon of warm water

over every plant right away to keep the plants from being shocked.

• Add adequate amounts of slow-releasing fertilizer during planting for fresher and juicier harvests.

• Cover the plant stems with wax paper for cutworm prevention.

• Cage or stake your tomato plants to enhance air circulation and prevent pests in your garden.

4. Water Your Tomatoes

Wait 7 days after transplanting, give 16 ounces of water to each plant daily. 2 weeks after transplanting, begin watering the plants twice weekly (0.75 to 1 gallon per week).

Increase the amount a bit during hotter days and when the plants are getting bigger.

Water early in the morning so that the plants will be dry by nighttime.
