JULIAN TREASURE
TED TALK
ON HOW
TO SPEAK
IT IS THE
ONLY
THING
THAT
CAN
START A
WAR
OR SAY
“I LOVE YOU”
YET SOMETIMES YOU
FEEL THAT
NOBODY IS
LISTENING
TO YOU
Let’s fix this
now shall we?
7 Deadly sins of
SPEAKING
#1 GOSSIPHey guess
who is
getting
fired?
Not
interested
#2 Judging
Did you just
call me
stupid?
Yes you
are stupid
#3 Negativity
What is
the point
of working
in this job
anyway?
#4 Complaining What is the
point of this
machine if I
still do all
the work?
#5 Excuses
You know what lets keep
postpone saving the world to
tomorrow, I am a little tired
now.
#6 LyingI built this car
myself. And you
know what it
can actually
fly
Exaggeration leads to lying and nobody likes it

HOW TO AVOID THESE
MISTAKES?
H.A.I.L
H = Honesty
A = Authenticity
I = Integrity
L = Love
Too much honesty not needed.
Honesty + Love is what brings out a good impression
You there…
You look
horrible
To be a confident speaker
you need to access this tool
box
register
Timbre
prosody
pace
pitch
volume
Register
Register Locate your voice. For weight voice should
come from chest
Timbre People tend to prefer smooth voices. Like
chocolate.
Prosody Monotonous tone= boring. Ending every
statement in a question mark is not good(
Repetitive Prosody).
Pace Use your pace wisely and Silence is a good
weapon while speaking.
Pitch Variations in pitch can change the meaning.
Volume You don’t have to yell into people’s ears.
Speaking low grabs audience attention.
Always warm
up your voice
before you give
an important
talk.
Imagine a world
where
We create sound consciously
Consume sound consciously
And build environments
consciously for sound
That would
be a
beautiful
world to listen to
