What Is Adsense?

What Is Google Adsense is a Javascript code that is integrated into a specific area of a website and allows web masters to generate a passive income through allowing Google to display different Google Ads relevant to the content of the website.

The amount/cost of each advertisement depends upon the subject matter and crucial factors such as average searches per month and level of competition for the relevant keyword.

How It Works

Getting started with Adsense, setup an account that pays off well requires an active website that ranks well and hosts the popular keywords that can give maximum earning to the website owner.

Following is a step by step guide for setting up an Adsense account.

1 \ Create A Google Account

The first step requires you to create a Google account at:https://www.google.com/adsense/

Fill in all the required details of your account and make ensure all details are accurate.  Your physical address and other relevant info need to be stated correctly as you will be receiving your checks and other important information on this address.

2 \ Get Your Code

Once you’re done with the basic sign-up, log-in to the account and use the code generated.

Integrate the code into the website as given in the instructions provided by Google.

3 \ Know Your Ad Sizes

The advertisements need to be visible to visitors of your website, so you need to place them at an easily visible location on the site. Generally, the left/right panel of a website is ideally the best place for placing Adsense advertisements.

There are three general sizes that are used:

336×280 Large Rectangle300×250 Medium Rectangles160×600 Wide Skyscraper

4 \ Limit Your Ads Per Page

Google allows only three ads per page including three unit links and three referral links.

5 \ Follow Googles Strict Rules

Google has some strict regulations within its Adsense program and expects website owners to follow the policy. Violating any of the rights will result in the account being banned and you could lose all the income earned.

Google doesn't allow porn, copyrighted or illegal content to be displayed.

If your website has questionable content - don’t place Adsense on it!

6 \ Find Relevant Keywords

Adsense is only rewarding if your niche website has a direct relationship with the target keywords.

*Example, a blog on fashion can have ads about ecommerce clothing stores and can obtain a wide range of high competition keywords that pay well.

To obtain an idea of the price value of each keyword, use Google’s Keyword Planner Tool - https://adwords.google.com/KeywordPlanner

Basic Guidelines To Follow

Note that  Adsense is tricky. While there are people who earn literally thousands of dollars over it, there are also some that earn merely a $100.

You cannot get rich overnight. It all depends on how well your website is built and if it is credible. People generally prefer clicking through ads that are placed on websites they frequent visit or trust.

To benefit from Adsense, follow some basic guidelines.

Focus On Getting More Traffic

You’ve got the ads, but no traffic means no earnings.

Focus on bringing quality traffic to your site and include strategies like quality content marketing and link building.

Try updating your site frequently and strive to make it user-friendly.

Offences and Bad Practices

Read the policies and terms and conditions in detail. Know that any violation of rules will result in your Adsense being shut down (Google can be quite merciless with this).

Google is smart enough to know whether you’re getting organic clicks or are getting clicks from Robots. Cloaking, keyword stuffing are also a big no-no for Adsense too.

The Wrap Up

Adsense is really all about the quality of the website rather than the Ads themselves.

If you want to earn a sustainable income via Adsense, you really need to focus on the quality of your content and the quality of the traffic you get.
