Alone we can do so little; Together we can do so much.

Success follows doing what you want to do. There is no other way to be successful. [Malcolm S. Forbes, Publisher of Forbes magazine]

Your core genius is some one thing that you love to do, it’s effortless for you and a whole lot of fun. If you could make money doing it, you’d make it your lifetime’s work.

Put your core genius first, focus on it and delegate everything else to people of your team.

Example: Professional earning: $75 per hour Neighborhood kid cut the grass: $10 per hour Gain 1 extra hour and profit by $65. 20 weekends in the spring and summer:

gain 20 hours a year – an extra of $1.300 in potential earnings.

Complete delegation: delegate a task once and completely – rather than delegating it each time it needs to be done. Staff, colleagues and assistants are taking charge and know that they wouldn’t be micromanaged.

Jack Canfield hired a gardener for his estate in Santa Barbara: “I want my grounds to look as close as possible to the grounds at the Four Seasons Biltmore in Montecito using the budget I am providing you”. He didn’t have to worry about his gardener again.

Delegate once time consuming detail work and save hundreds of hours a year that could be devoted to your core genius, exercise, family home, and recreation.

Become an artist doing what you love to do

The biggest mistake people make in life is not trying to make a living at doing what they most enjoy. [Malcolm S. Forbes]

All entrepreneurs are really con artists. They get other people to pay them to practice getting better at what they love to do. [Strategic coach Dan Sullivan – www.strategiccoach.com]

Put all your time where you make your money – find your core genius and devote the majority of your waking hours to perfecting your genius.

Spend most of your time focusing on your core genius and unique abilities – the one thing you went into business for in the first place.

Identify your core genius, then delegate completely to free up more time to focus on what you love to do.

Do what you love – the money will follow.

Starting out to make money is the greatest mistake in life. Do what you feel you have a flair for doing, and if you are good enough at it, the money will come. [Greer Garson, Winner of the 1943 Academy Award for the best actress]

One of the most difficult adjustments people must make is in their fundamental concepts and beliefs about the management of time. [Dan Sullivan, Founder and president, the Strategic Coach]

The most successful people known create superior results yet still maintain a balance among work, family, and recreation in their lives.

To achieve this, they use a unique planning system that structures their time into three very different kinds of days that are prescheduled to assure the highest payoff for their efforts while still allowing abundant amounts of free time to pursue their personal interests.

Best result days – 80% core genius

Preparation days – preparation & planning

Rest & Recreation days – no work-related activities, 130 – 150 / year

Best Result days

A best result day is a day in which you spend 80% of your time operating in your core genius, or primary area of expertise, using your areas of brilliance, to produce your best results – interacting with people or processes that gives you the highest payoffs for the time you invest.

To be successful, you must schedule more Best Result days and hold yourself accountable for producing the results.

Focus your core genius, your natural talent, the area where you shine – effortless for you and a whole lot of fun.

11 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 12: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Preparation days

A Preparation day is a day when you plan for a Best Result day – either by Learning new skills,

Locating a new resource,

Training your support team,

or delegating tasks and projects to others.

Preparation days ensure that your Best Result days are as productive as possible.

= seeking out a mentor, developing a new sales presentation, writing a brochure, preparing a new job candidate, training an assistant, attending an industry of professional convention, or writing an employee manual.

Rest & recreation days

A Rest & Recreation day (R&R) extends from midnight to midnight and includes no work-related activity of any kind.

It’s a day completely free of business meetings, business-related phone calls, emails, or reading work-related documents, no laptops.

On a true R&R day, you’re not available to your staff, co-workers, clients, or students for any kind of contact except for true emergency – injury, death, flood, or fire.

13 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 14: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Rest & recreation days

You have to set clear boundaries, stop rescuing people, and trust that they can handle things themselves. They become more self-reliant, they grow in ability and self-confidence.

You need to take some time away from your children on a regular basis. Let go, trust, and take care yourself for a change.

The value of regular R&R days is that you come back to your work refreshed and ready to tackle it with renewed vigor, enthusiasm, and creativity.

You become more creative in generating breakthrough ideas and solving problems.

14 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 15: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Rest & recreation days

Everyone’s ultimate goal should be

130 to 150 days off each year

= every weekend, 104 vacation days

+ another 48 R&R days: long weekends, holiday weeks, 2-week vacations, other opportunities

Recharge, rejuvenate and rest.

15 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 16: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

R&R days makes you more rested, more productive, and more valuable to your employer. You will see things differently help you to understand what’s important and what’s not.

Start scheduling an increasing number of Best Result days, a reduced number of Preparation days and R&R days on your calendar every month right now.

With this kind of schedule you’ll find yourself creating greater results at work, enjoying more fulfilment in your personal life, and experiencing more balance between the two.

Steps to begin implementing a

Breakthrough Results Time System:

1. Document your 3 Best Results days you have ever had. Create a more perfect BRD.

2. Discuss how to create your Best Results days with your boss, staff, co-workers.

3. Discuss with your friends or family how to create more true R&R days in your life.

4. Schedule at least four vacations – long weekends or longer – for the next year.

5. List the 3 best R&R days you have ever had and look for the common elements in those. Schedule more of those elements into your planned R&R days.

Be increasingly more conscious and intentional to structure your time in a way that takes full advantage of your talents and maximizes your results and your income.

Start now to control your time and your life. Remember, you are in charge.

High achievers, professionals, entrepreneurs, athletes and others have powerful teams of key staff members, consultants, vendors and assistants who manage projects and handle the everyday tasks – enabling them to create new sources of income, new opportunities for success, hone their craft, practice their sport, and so on.

The total focus process 1. List all those activities that occupy your time. 2. Identify those 1-3 things you are particularly brilliant

at, your special and unique talents – and those 3 activities that generate the most income for you and your company. Focus the most time and energy at activities you are brilliant at and that generate the most income.

3. Create a plan for delegating everything else to other people – invest time, training and patience.

That is how you create a brilliant career

Page 21: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Check out key “staff members”, a dynamic number-two person who handle your projects, run your programs, book your sales transactions, and completely take over other tasks while you concentrate on what to do best.

You need a powerful team of personal advisors to turn to for assistance, advice, and support. They walk you through challenges and opportunities, saving your time, effort, and usually money.

21 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 22: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Your team of advisors should include your banker, your lawyer, a high-net-worth certified accountant, your doctor, nutritionist, personal trainer, and the leader of your religious organization.

Free up to pursue your core competency and get support to grow and succeed from people who believe in you.

22 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Create a schedule of daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly or semi-annual meetings with every member of your team.

Make sure that team members are clear about what you expect from them and that you are clear about what they expect from you.

Once you’ve chosen your team members, trust them. There are people who love to do what you don’t and they often do a much better job than you would or could – at a surprisingly low cost.

23 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 24: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

You don’t have to let yourself be terrorized by other people’s expectations of you. [Sue Patton Thoole. Author of The Courage to Be Yourself]

Eliminate those tasks, requests, and other time-stealers that don’t have a high payoff.

Create strong boundaries about what you will and won’t do – start a “stop doing” list as well as a to-do list.

Make the things on your lists “policies”, and bring more discipline and focus into your life.

24 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 25: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

People respond to policies, they understand them as boundaries. They will respect you more for being clear about what you want and won’t.

“Don’t do” policies on a personal level are:

I never lend my car to anyone for any reason.

I don’t lend money. I am not a bank.

We don’t schedule outside social events on Friday night. That is our family night.

I don’t discuss charitable contributions over the phone. Send me something in writing.

25 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 26: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

On a business level, some “don’t do” policies are:

I don’t give endorsements for books of fiction.

I don’t lend my books to other people.

I don’t schedule more than five talks in one month.

I don’t take any calls on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Those are writing days.

26 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 27: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Some more suggestions:

Let your assistant open your e-mails – he brings you the important ones to respond to (less than five a day).

Essential e-mails to your job are may be 10% to 20% - if non-essential ask people to take you off their general distribution list. If you save 90 minutes per work day that would add up to 375 hours, or just over 40-hour work weeks a year.

27 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 28: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Highly successful people say no all the time – to projects, to crazy deadlines, to questionable priorities, and to other people’s crisis.

Claim your calendar, family obligations, deadlines, and even finances as reasons why you must decline requests.

One response in saying no to crisis, appeals or time-robbing requests from people is “It’s not against you; it’s for me.” You will be respected for your clarity and your strength.

Page 29: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Good is the enemy of the great. [Jim Collins, author of Good to Great]

Concentrating on merely the good often prevents the great from showing up, because there is no time left to take advantage of any additional opportunities for astounding success.

The Paredo Principle: 20% of your activity produces about 80% of your success. Say no to time-wasting activities and instead focus on the 20% of activity that would bring you the most benefit.

29 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 30: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Determine what’s truly great

1. Start by listing your opportunities – one side of the page for good and the other side for great. Decide if an opportunity truly fit with your overall life purpose and passion or if it’s just life taking you down a side road.

2. Talk to advisors about this potential new pursuit – talk about expected challenges and evaluate the hassle factor – how much time, money, effort, stress, commitment will be required.

30 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 31: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Determine what’s truly great

3. Test the waters. Conduct a small test, spending a limited amount of time and money.

4. And finally, look at where you spend your time. Determine if those activities truly serve your goals or if saying no would free up schedule for more focused pursuits.

31 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 32: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

One of the main strategies of successful people is that they constantly seek out guidance and advice from experts in their field. Make a list of those people you would like to ask to mentor you.

Do your homework

Read industry magazines, search the Internet, ask trade associations executive directors, attend trade shows and conventions, call fellow entrepreneurs, or approach others who operate in your industry or profession.

Identify your short list of possible mentors.

Contact possible mentors: make a list of specific topics - why you’d like them to mentor you, what kind of help you might be looking for.

Successful people like to share what they have learned with others. It is a human trait to want you pass on wisdom – ask them to devote a few minutes a month to you.

Contact your local chapter of SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives), volunteers are providing free business counselling and advice, low-cost workshops to all types of business, in all stages of development, from idea to start-up to success.

Mentors don’t like to have their time wasted. When you seek out their advice, follow it.

Study their methods, ask your questions, make sure you understand the program – then, as much as humanly possible, duplicate your mentor’s effort. You may even be able to improve on them.

Be prepared to give your mentors something in return – e.g. keeping them updated on industry information, calling with new opportunities – and help others to grow.

Page 45: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Two heads are better than one when it comes to solving a problem or creating a result.

Having a permanent group of five to six people who meet every week for the purpose of problem solving, brain-storming, networking, and encouraging and motivating each other is called masterminding – one of the most powerful tools for success, to become super-successful .

45 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 46: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

A mastermind group can focus special energy on your efforts – in the form of knowledge, new ideas, a vast array of resources, and, most importantly, spiritual energy.

The basic philosophy of a masterminding group is that more can be achieved in less time when people work together.

46 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 47: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

A mastermind group is made up of people who come together on a regular basis – weekly, biweekly, or monthly – to share ideas, thoughts, information, feedback, and resources.

By getting the perspective, knowledge, and resources of the others in the group, not only can you move beyond your own limited views of the world but you can also advance your own goals and projects more quickly and receive valuable feedback.

Confidentiality builds a level of trust.

47 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 48: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

The key is to choose people who are already where you’d like to be in your life – at least a level above you.

The ideal size of a mastermind group is five to six people. If it is any smaller it loses its dynamics. If it is much bigger, it gets unwieldy.

48 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 49: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Mastermind meetings should be conducted weekly or every other week with all members of the group in attendance.

They can be conducted in person or over the phone.

About 1 to 2 hours is an ideal length of time.

49 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 50: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

For the first meetings each member familiarizes the others with his or her situation, opportunities, needs and challenges, while the other members brainstorm ways they can support that person.

During later meetings, participants each get a small amount of time to update the others, ask for help, and get feedback.

50 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 51: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Each meeting shall follow the proven format below to ensure that each participant gets their needs met and therefore stays involved – assign a time keeper.

Step 1: Ask for spiritual guidance by delivering an invocation

► Request powerful spiritual energy

51 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 52: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Step 2: Share what’s new and good ► Share success stories Step 3: Negotiate for time ► Everyone agrees to the schedule,

staying on time and on focus Step 4: Individual members speak while the group

listens and brainstorms solutions ► Get and give value

52 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 53: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Step 5: Make a commitment to stretch

► Everyone is continually moving forward the completion of their goals

Step 6: End with a moment of gratitude

► prayer expressing gratitude

Step 7: Be accountable

► Did each member take action? Did they achieve their goals?

Other members checking up on you to make sure you meet your stated commitment

53 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 54: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Work with an accountability partner

The two of you agree to a set of goals that each is working toward and agree to talk regularly by phone to hold each other accountable for meeting deadlines, accomplishing goals, and making program.

Knowing that you’re reporting to someone provides the extra motivation to get the job done.

54 J. Canfield 2005: The Success Principles

Page 55: How to get from where you are to where you want to be to get from where you are to where you ... Anthony Robbins ... Start now to control your time and your life

Work with an accountability partner

Ask your partner to share ideas, information, contacts, and resources.

Choose someone who is as excited about reaching his or her goal as you are about reaching yours – someone who is committed to your success and

theirs.

Brain researchers estimate that your unconscious data base outweighs the conscious on an order ten million to one. This database is the source of your hidden, natural genius. In other words, a part of you is much smarter than you are. The wise people regularly consult that smarter part.

Super-successful people have developed their intuition and learned to trust their gut feelings and follow their inner guidance.

Many practice some form of meditation to access the voice within.

Use your intuition to make more money, make better decisions, solve problems more quickly, unleash your creative genius, discern people’s hidden motives, envision a new business, and create winning business plans and strategies.

Using meditation to access your intuition Attend meditation retreat When you focus on your deepest, most heartfelt goals

and desires, solutions would come pouring into your mind – clear thoughts and images of the steps you would need to take, the people you would need to talk to, and the ways to transcend any obstacles you might encounter.

As you meditate and become more spiritually attuned, you can better discern and recognize the sound of your higher self or the voice of God speaking to you through words, images, and sensations.

Make sure to immediately write down any impressions

you receive, they “evaporate” very quickly

An intuitive insight – or any new idea – not captured within 37 seconds is likely never to be recalled again.

In 7 minutes it goes forever.
