How to download & install SPSS

Swinburne Online Helpful tips

We have outlined every step for you to ensure there is

no confusion and should take approximately 15min just

follow every step

Swinburne Online Step 1

Go to the following web address:

• http://swinburne.onthehub.com

When loaded click on ‘Your Account’ as seen below

Select ‘Register’ to create an account


Enter your STUDENT email address and click ‘Continue’


Enter in all your personal details, password and make

sure you select ‘student’ from the final drop down box…


Once you register you will be taken to this page

Now open your student email account


Once you click the ‘Register’ button an email should be

sent to your student email account that will look something

like the one below

• This is your account confirmation email


When you open the email it should look like the one below

• click the link OR follow the instructions


The actions from Step 7 should then take you to this page

within your new account

• Simply click ‘Start Shopping’ to begin


There is only one program to select – SPSS Statistics 22

• Simply click the icon (seen below) to move through the process


Select the platform type here (PC or Mac) and version, as

well as the length of duration of licence you require

• most students will only need 6 months so choose carefully!


For this example we are purchasing the ‘SPSS Statistics

Base GradPack 22 for Windows’ 6 month rental

• find the right one for you and select ‘Add to Cart’

Be aware that you will require Mac OS X 10.6 or later

• To find this out follow the below steps

You can update your system by going to the apple website

• www.apple.com/au/osx/

This is the page (your ‘Cart’) that lets you check your

selection

• If everything is correct then click the ‘Check Out’ button


This brings up End User Licence Agreement.

• Please read and click ‘I Accept’

• Please note there are NO REFUNDS!


You will then have to fill out a few mandatory question

fields to finalise your purchase


Then fill out your billing details (red star indicates

mandatory fields)


This page lets you check your billing address, purchase

selection, order information and payment method


Once the payment has been processed, follow the

prompts to find the ‘Start Download’ button (see below)


You will then be taken to this page, which outlines the 4

step process for downloading SPSS


When you click the ‘Download SDM’ button in Step 1 the

following box will appear – select ‘Save File’


Double click the ‘SDM_EN.msi’ file to open the Download

Manager


Follow the instructions on the Setup Wizard and click ‘Next’


Select ‘I Agree’ and then click ‘Next’


After you agree you will be able to choose your destination

folder for the file download

• you will normally have a ‘default’ location chosen by your computer


Once downloaded, find where you downloaded the file and

double click it


You will then need to go back to the page outlined in Step

18 (if you are not taken there automatically)

• Select option 3 to download .SDX file (see below)


Make sure that the ‘Secure Download Manager’ is the

default open option and then click ‘OK’


IMPORTANT!!!! You will need to choose a 32-bit or 64-bit

version – if you choose the wrong one it will NOT work –

and you do not get a refund! See Steps 28-30


32-bit or 64-bit?

• To find out if your computer is 32 or 64 bit click on the

windows icon in your start bar

• Find the ‘Computer’ icon and right mouse click on it

• Select ‘Properties’

• When that page loads you will be able to see if you are

32 or 64 bit (see Step 29)


This is what you should see


We’re downloading the 32-bit version – which is the first

option. Simply click the ‘Start Download’ button and wait…


Once you have downloaded the software you will need the

Activation Code

• It is found on your purchase page and will look similar to below


When you begin the installation process you will need to

click through these windows


Select the ‘License my product now’ option and enter the

activation code mentioned in Step 31


Once entered (and if successful) it should look like below –

simply click next.


And you’re done! Click ‘Finish’ and then find SPSS in your

menu bar or desktop – just click/double click it to run.
