How to download and use Zoom with a desktop or laptop computer.

Open up your browser (whether Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, etc).

A window should appear like this:

In the address bar, type: Zoom download

Scroll down until you see: Download Center – Zoom

Click the link

This screen pops up:

Now click the blue ‘Download’ button under ‘Zoom Client for Meetings’

Somewhere on the screen, you should see the download happening (in this case, the bottom left corner). Once done, CLICK on that download file.

Wait a few moments (around 30 seconds), and you’ll see an install window appear:

Then you should see this window pop up:

If not, it may just be minimized on your screen or hidden by another window.

CLICK ‘Join a Meeting’

This window should pop up:

Enter your name and any pronouns you wish.

Enter the 9 digit meeting ID you received in an email. FOR EXAMPLE: 123-456-789

It should look like this before you click ‘Join’

This window should pop up. The following is for COMPUTER audio. IF YOU’D LIKE TO JUST USE YOUR PHONE, scroll down to the PHONE USE slide.

Now we’re going to test your speaker and microphone. CLICK ‘Test Speaker and Microphone’

If your audio is set up correctly, you’ll hear a tone.

If you do, CLICK ‘Yes’. If not, ‘No’ and you will be guided to select a different speaker.

Next, say, ‘Hello, My Name is ____’. PAUSE, and you should hear a recording of yourself played back. If you do, CLICK ‘Yes’, if not, click ‘No’, and you will be guided to select a different microphone.

If your speaker and microphone are working properly, you should see this screen. Now CLICK ‘Join with Computer Audio’

PHONE USE. If you are going to use your phone to call in, especially if your computer does not have a microphone or webcam, this is the screen you want to see. You get here by clicking the ‘Phone Call’ tab. (The screen will automatically be on the ‘Computer Audio’ tab).

NOTE: IF you are using a phone only, be sure to know where your ‘MUTE’ button is! For proper Zoom meeting etiquette, if you are not speaking, you should have your phone device on MUTE.

If your video is working properly, this is what you should see! (Your face, instead of mine 😉 )

If people cannot hear or see you (and would - or need - to turn on your microphone and/or webcam), see the screen below. If there’s a red line through the microphone and video icons, click on them and the red line should disappear. This should solve the problem.

Use the following screen to get to the CHAT window, if you would like to write a message to other participants on the Zoom meeting.

If you would like to leave the meeting, CLICK the red ‘Leave Meeting’ icon at the bottom right of the screen.

If your webcam is blocked or not working for some reason, you will see the following screen. You may need to physically adjust a very small sliding mechanism on your laptop to fix this. OR (look at next screenshot)

You may need to click the ^ icon to the right of the Video Camera icon, and choose a different option.

Remember to keep in mind:

● Lighting ● Background noises ● If you are taking a break from the meeting, always CLICK MUTE and STOP VIDEO

● Please MUTE yourself when you are not speaking.
