How to connect to the DC Two

Private network via VPN

These steps have been created for Windows 7. All other operating systems have a PPTP

VPN client which may be implemented in a similar, but not identical way as the below.

1 – Click on the Windows Start button and open the Control Panel

2 – Once the Control Panel has opened, select and open the “Network and Sharing

Centre”.

3 – Once the Network and Sharing Centre has opened, select “Set up a new connection or

network.

4 – Select “Connect to a workplace” to create the new VPN connection and click ‘Next’.

5 – Select “No, create a new connection” and click ‘Next’;

6 – Select “Use my Internet connection (VPN)”.

7 – Now you can enter the specific connection and configuration details required for the

VPN connection.

(i) Internet Address:- You will need to know the specific data centre/site which your

systems are hosted at to ensure you connect to the correct site. Each site must be

configured and accessed independent from the other to ensure full and complete

separation and redundancy, especially during an outage or crisis situation.

DC Two current sites as at March 2014;

Australia – WA – DC Two Osborne Park (OSY) osy.vpn.dctwo.com.au

Australia – WA – Vocus PerthIX (PIX) pix.vpn.dctwo.com.au

(ii) Destination Name:- As the name of the VPN, we would suggest creating a name so you

can easily recognise it. Perhaps “DC Two VPN to {Site Name}”.

Suggested names;

For OSY - “DC Two VPN to OSY”

For PIX - “DC Two VPN to PIX”

(iii) Tick the “Don’t connect now” tick box as some additional settings for IP default routes

will need to be disabled before the VPN will function properly.

8 – Enter your username and password details then click “Create”.

Username: Will be your corporate email address. Generic or public email

addresses such as ‘gmail’ or ‘hotmail’ accounts are not supported within the DC Two

system.

Password: A password will be assigned to you to begin with but you can change

this at any stage via DC Two Web Services Portal. Select “Remember this

password” if you wish to save your password.

9 – The VPN is now created, select Close so you can complete the configuration.

10 – Return to the Network and Sharing Centre (point 2 above) and select “Change

adapter settings”

11 – When the Network Connections opens, right mouse click on the VPN you created

above and click on “Properties”.

12 – When the VPN properties screen opens, open the “Security” tab and change the Type

of VPN to “Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)”

13 – Open the “Networking” tab, select “Internet Protocol Version 6” and then click

“Properties”.

14 – In the IPv6 properties page, click the “Advanced” button

15 – Un tick “Use default gateway on remote network” then click OK, and OK again to

return to the VPN properties screen

16 – select “Internet Protocol Version 4” and then click “Properties”.

17 – In the IPv4 properties page, click the “Advanced” button

18 – Un tick “Use default gateway on remote network” then click OK, OK, and OK again to

confirm all the changes in the VPN properties

19 – Setting up of the VPN connection is now complete.

You can now “Connect” to the DC Two network using

the new VPN connection. In the “Network Connections

screen (step 11), right mouse click on the VPN

connection and select “Connect”.

You can also click on the networking icon (bottom RHS

of the Windows task bar) then click on the VPN and

then the “connect” button.

If you have any problems, issues or additional questions with accessing the VMWare

Console, please do not hesitate to contact DC Two support via email

[email protected] or on 08 6141 1011.
