How to create a fundraising page on Virgin Money Giving

Add your fundraising target (it’s proven if you add one

you will raise more!)

Click ‘No’

Click ‘Next’

If fundraising as a team click on ‘With others’, if not click

‘Just me’

If you’re already registered you can click ‘Sign in’ and create your page as you would

have done previously. If not, click ‘Register’.

Enter your details in the mandatory fields indicated, agree to

the terms and conditions then click

‘Next’.

Enter your date of birth and a password

then click‘Next’

Choose your unique web address (which you’ll be able to use

to promote your page via email or social media) and click

‘Check address’ to ensure no-one else has taken it already.

Then click ‘Next’.

Click ‘Create my page’ to start

customising your fundraising page.

On this page you can add a profile photo, YouTube video, a photo gallery, some custom text and a Twitter widget to communicate with your friends, family and work colleagues etc. The more you add to your page the more appealing it will be to your friends, family and work colleagues to make a donation! Make sure

you ‘tell a story’ to inspire people to donate.

For example : Why are you fundraising?

What will their money mean to World Child Cancer? Why did you choose World Child Cancer?

How is your training going?

If you are short of time, you can log back into your

account at anytime to update or amend it.

Once you are happy with your page, click ‘Save’

You can also set your Thank You message to let your donors

know how much their donations means to you. Then click ‘Create

my page’.

Here you can select whether you want to receive an email when someone sponsors you.

You’re done. You now have a page on Virgin Money Giving!

The next step is to get some

donations. We give you a multitude of options here for sharing your page but we find Facebook is the most effective and popular as your family and

friends are the most likely to support your cause. You can of course Email your friends and

family if you prefer.

“Don't just rely on sponsorship. Think outside the box, I had a ladies

indulgence evening and also a golf tournament. These two events alone

provided the majority of the sponsorship raised.”

“Friday 3pm emails to work colleagues just after payday, along

with cakes, works a treat.”

“Give regular updates on training/progress and make

sure you thank everyone individually. Get involved

personally with the charity make people feel they money

is making a difference.”

“Organise events. The bigger the better and the more events the better.

Without them it's a long hard struggle continually asking people to put their

names on a sponsor form and then chasing the money. Also always have a draw/raffle at the events as people are always willing to buy 'a strip' no matter

what the prizes are!”

“I offer a bottle of champagne to the supporter who guesses my finishing

time as a thank you.”

“Be bold and brave and remember when you are asking people to

sponsor you its for charity it's not for you! I want to help find a cure for type 1 diabetes and just kept

telling people why I was doing this and that seemed to help.”

“Ask absolutely everyone you know or meet to donate; you'll be surprised who does

support you.”

“Ask for sponsorship money on pay day.”

“Divide the target into manageable chunks for example £100 from

family, £100 from work... Start early and be organised Cake ....colleagues

are quite happy to pay £20 for a piece of millionaire's shortbread!!!”

“Always set your target higher than what it actually is, so that people are more generous and you are more likely to reach it.”
