0hen Srila )rabhupada first came to the 0est& he re1uested his disciples tochant 23 rounds or 44&444 holy names and this was also /auran-aMahaprabhu instruction to e(eryone. In fact /auran-a Mahaprabhu would onlyeat in the homes of de(otees who chanted 44&444 names of the ord.

5his was also tau-ht by Srila haktisiddanta Saraswati 5hakur& the founder ofthe /audiya Matha and /uru of Srila hakti(edanta swami and son of these(enth -oswami Srila hakti(inoda 5hakur.

ut Srila )rabhupada disco(ered that his disciples from the 0est could notchant 23 rounds so he reduced the chantin- to 67 rounds& but when he found

out they could not chant e(en that he told them 2 rounds minimum.5oday some members think that this is the ma8imum but these 2 rounds wasonly to start you into the process of chantin- with the understandin- that asyou -et the taste for the holy names which is the sound (ibration of the ordand non9different from Him& you would -radually increase from 2 rounds to23. 5his 23 rounds would take appro8imately $ hours and 64 minutes.

Srila )rabhupada said after practicin- chantin- for some time& one should beable to chant one round in $ minutes. So si8teen rounds in hour and 74minutes. Most members say they cannot chant one round in $ minutes.

I will tell you why you cannot chant round in $ minutes: because you are notperformin- ;apa but kirtan.
