How to capture real emotions with Candid Photography

Candid Photography or real life photography is all about capturing life on the move. Its captures life, emotions, elements in their natural state, not staged or arranged in any way. As opposed to formal photography. And the result is remarkable, because people don’t know that they are being photographed and act natural. Candid photography is more detailed, since we capture a lot more images than formal photography. But when all the pictures are put together in an order, a story emerges – a story full of emotions, expressions, moments, moving images.

Candid styles of photography are becoming increasingly popular in India, because its natural and not made up. In fact people prefer to opt for Candid styles even on formal occasions such as Weddings, Engagements, Birthday’s, Corporate Events and so on. With candid photography the possibilities are endless. This style of photography is especially good for people who are photo shy and don’t like to pose in front of the camera.

For a formal occasion a blend of both Candid and Formal photography is preferable, because that way you will be able to capture and tell the complete story of an important event. In fact on many occasions candid photos tell the story of what happened behind the scenes. In the hustle and bustle of a major function such as a wedding many of us are unable to pay attention to all the little things that go on in the background.

So here are a few tips that would ensure that your Candid Photos capture the real deal in the perfect manner:-

1. Keep your camera handy at all times: The best way to take spontaneous photographs is to always take your camera everywhere you go. These days most of us have Camera phones, so its good to capture events or the move.

2. Use a long zoom: In candid photography the subject does not know that they are being photographed and so they act naturally. If you go too close to the subject then they become conspicuous and the result may not result in a true candid shot.

3. Switch off the Flash: Using a flash unintentionally informs your subject that they are being photographed and this may not be to their liking. Especially if it’s a stranger that you are trying to capture. There is nothing like a blinding flash of light to kill the moment.

4. Take more pics: If your phone camera or camera has a continuous shooting mode, then turn it on and capture real images as they unfold.

5. Position yourself strategically: If you have been asked to cover an even then visualize the even before it actually begins. Think about the lighting, the best position and location that you need to be in to capture the event as it unfolds and with the least interruptions.

6. Photography People doing things: Capturing two or more people as they go about their business together captures the relationship that they share. An picture is worth a Thousand words and its true even today. Photography justifies that.

7. Mix up your perspective: Shooting from different angles and from different viewpoints will give a whole different set of images and events.

8. Frame the subject with foreground images: Shoot over someone’s shoulder or have a tree branch in front of the main subject. This gives a surreal effect.
