What is Build a Website? Build a Website is a simple, integrated website hosting product that incorporates a full-featured website builder that works through your Web browser (the software you use to access websites) - so, there is no software you need to install on your computer.

Build a Website costs just £3.49 per month and includes everything you need - a website address, a website builder and e-mail - with no time-bound contracts. What's more, all websites hosted through Build a Website are hosted on our reliable and redundant "VMware cloud" infrastructure. What this means is that there is more than one back-end server that is making sure your website stays online, and remains fast and responsive. While you don't need to understand the technical aspects of how this all works, it's good to know your website is in safe hands.

Are there any system requirements to use the website builder? You simply need a computer with access to the Internet, regardless whether you have a Windows or Mac computer, or a Chromebook.

Understanding the Terminology and Website Builder Features Layout

The layout is the overall look of your template and the header, footer and sidebars on it. You can customise the layout options in the Design tab of the website builder.

Scheme

The scheme is the overall colour scheme of your template. You can customise the scheme of your template in the Design tab of the website builder.

Modules

These are functions that you can add to your website. Some modules include image galleries, embedded video, blogs, commenting and social sharing widgets. You can add them from the Modules tab in the website builder.

Domain name

A domain name is the address of your website - it's how your visitors will be able to access your website. For example, our website address is http://www.eukhost.com.

How do I get started? Getting started is simple. When you sign up to Build a Website, our sales department will quickly get your service set up and website address registered. And straight after, you'll be e-mailed your control panel login details so you can start building your website using our easy to use website builder.

Isn't the website builder the control panel?

The website builder is the main component you'll be using; however this is bundled in the control panel that is used to manage your entire website. The control panel we include is called cPanel, and we've extensively modified what is included and what isn't so everything you will possibly need is included inside the control panel - and all the complicated and unnecessary functions removed - resulting in a simple, easy to use control panel where you can easily find the things you need to get going.

When I have my order set up, is there anything I need to configure?

There is absolutely nothing to configure. As soon as your order is set up by our sales team, you can immediately log in and start building your website. When you publish your new website from the builder, you'll be able to view it live via the website address which you had chosen at the time of order. It's that simple.

How do I log in to the control panel?

You will have received a welcome e-mail showing you your website control panel log in details. You use these details whenever you want to log in to your control panel and access the website builder. The website you need to access to log in to your control panel is provided in your welcome e-mail.

We provide a secure default password for logging in, but you can change this if you'd like once you have logged into your control panel. If you want to change your password, we recommend making it as random and non-guessable as possible. There are great free tools like KeePass which is a free password manager for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux which you can use to generate and store secure passwords in an encrypted KeePass database file. It's also very easy to use, and we strongly recommend you consider using it.

Using the website builder for the first time When you launch the website builder for the first time, you'll be able to choose the perfect template that works best with the topic of your website. Each time a website topic is chosen, the structure and presentation of the template will be slightly different - so even from the start, your website design will look different to another using the same website topic with the website builder. But of course, you can customise the styling and structure of your template.

When you choose a website topic, you'll need to enter a few details for your new website, as shown below. Once done, simply click the Submit and Create Site button for your new website template to be dynamically generated by the builder.

The toolbar, as shown below, is the main interface you'll be using for customising your website. All styling, structure and design changes are made within the Design tab. If you want to add or remove pages, that's the Pages tab. And for the various modules you can add to your website, the Modules tab.

Changing the colour scheme of your websiteTo change the colour scheme of your website, from the Design tab, click on Scheme on the left. From here, you'll be able to choose from over 80 pre-made schemes. And if there isn't one that you like best for your website, you can mix and match yourself by changing the individual scheme values to create your own custom style-set!

Changing the colours on your template If you'd like to change the colours of links, text or the background colour of certain elements (including adding gradients) simply click on the Colors tab from the left.

You can also change the colours of all the different page areas - content, header, footer and any sidebars you may have active. And if you look near the bottom of the image on the left, you can set the background for the page area currently selected in this section. You can either set the background as a solid colour, with a gradient effect or even an image of your choice. If you want to set a gradient background, you can choose from 19 different gradients.

Changing the width of the template and adding sidebars To change the width of the template, add sidebars and add spacing between various elements, from the Design tab, click on Layout from the left. To change the header or footer width to 100% (i.e. stretched), simply click on the Header or Footer in the grey box.

The margin sets spacing between elements. In particular, vertical margin sets spacing between the upper menu and the content area (which is the left content area and any added sidebar(s)).

Adding modules You can add a module to your website by simply dragging-and-dropping. Notice in the image below that when a module is dragged onto your website design, either a green or blue bar will appear to indicate how the module will appear. It will either be "Page-Specific Area" or "Site-Wide Area". The difference is whether you would like the module to appear on the active page you are dragging the module onto, or whether you would like the module to appear in the same location you have added the module to on every page.

(Note: If you ever delete a content box in your template, you can replace it by using the "Text & Images" module - it's the same.)

Formatting and moreChanging the styling and appearance of text in a content box is easy. To do this, simply highlight the text you want to style or make into a link and an overlay bar will appear with font, colour and other options for you to choose from. If you want to add a link to another page or website, simply highlight the text and click the Link icon which has a link/chain icon to the left of it. You can easily link to another page by selecting it from a drop-down, or if needed, link to an external website by entering the website address you want to link to.

Creating your own online storeCreating an online store is incredibly simple with the built-in online store module. Like any other module, simply drag-and-drop the module onto your website as shown below.

Once you've added the module, you need to sign up with the third party online store faciliator which is integrated into the module. All the products which you add to your store will automatically appear on your website. Their service is free for you to use, but if you want extra

features, they offer a paid package at $17 per month (roughly around £101).

There is no code for you to add to your website for the shopping module to work. All you need to do is link your third party account with the module in the section shown below.

If you register to the service from within the module, your account will automatically be linked to the module.

All aspects of your store - categories, products, taxes, shipping and other aspects - are catered for via the third party online store control panel. You can always get to this control panel from the "Manage" button as shown in the above screenshot. In the screenshot below is the control panel you use to manage your store.

Note: If you ever want to re-link your store to the module, you can find your Store ID via the "Dashboard".
