Your Counselors, the CCC and the Scholarship Committee will let you know about scholarship opportunities that come in or will help you find out about scholarship opportunities

Retake your ACT Exam The higher your score the more schools that will accept you Some scholarships require high scores

for you and your family

Check with former students on what they think of the education they received from these types of schools.

There are scholarships available for all these types of schools!

Search for and apply for as many scholarships as you can! Don’t just rely on Scholarships from Edison.

Always ask for help whenever you are in needAlways check your applications over with another

person to cross check for errors Remember that your application is the first impression

the college/scholarship committees have of you. Be very neat and fill out a rough draft of your application first.

Help available in January after winter break in the CCC.

Prepare your parents to have 2013 tax information done as soon as possible after January 31 The sooner you get it done, the more aid you are likely to get. As the schools and government come to the end of their pots of

aid, those who ask later have to divide up what is left.

Prepare for yourself as well if you have earned over $2,200 – money is subtracted from financial aide

F.A.F.S.A.

You need to complete this for colleges/universities to offer you financial aid.

• This is where those students whose names were called over and over got all those scholarship dollars!

Available at the beginning of January for students attending 4 year colleges only need to re apply again after 2 years, must have a B average at that

time College must be in Minnesota, a reciprocity state or be a

Historically Black College

Must have passed all GRAD Tests at the time of application.

Must have at least a score of “19” on your ACT.

The Edison Scholarship Committee tries to be as fair as possible when awarding the scholarships it has available and looks at all the students who meet the criteria. Many of these scholarships can be used at

Technical and Community Colleges.

What to do:1. Contact your teachers now for recommendation letters.

Need at least two from your core teachers: English, Social Studies, Math or Science

Can have a third from a different teacher or someone else.

What to do:2. Work on your Essays

Required of everyone: Where do you see yourself five and ten years from now? How do your current plans include attending and studying at a post-secondary institution

Choose on of the following: Life Challenge Life’s Passion Learning Experiences

What to do:3. Prepare your resume

4. Get copies of your parents and your financial information Just the form 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ from 2012

Scan it or take a good quality photo of it You can white out Social Security numbers before you do so

If your parents get assistance, a copy of their benefits statement Information is only used to see if you qualify for a particular

scholarship – it will not be given to anyone outside the committee.

What to do:5. Submit your Essays, Resume and Financial information

Use your Minneapolis Public Schools Google Docs to share this information with the Edison Scholarship Committee Instructions for how to do this can be found on the Application

page on the Edison website

What to do:6. Gather the information you need for your application

Use the worksheet from the Edison Website Once you have all the information you can go to the on-line

application on the Edison web-site You need to complete it all at once – there is no save feature for

you to come back later Plan on about 30 – 45 minutes to enter everything

What to do:7. Print out a copy of the Cover Sheet/Verification form

Complete the information asked for Who you requested letters recommendations from Sign the release that the Scholarship committee can share your

application, resume and essays with other scholarship organizations Sign the agreement that you will write Thank You letters to all the

donors of scholarships you received Take the form to one of the Scholarship Committee members

listed They will then verify that all of your applications materials have been

received.
