Architecture. Do not take offense, but is also a procedure. Apologize to reveal the end of the book.
You get up, you take the subway, walk into class, book class site for a friend who is always late in Structures, you take notes, coffee break ... One ... three ... fifteen exams. Never mind. All constructions end up surpas-sing room.
However ... What do you do when you get home? What are you reading? What are you looking? What interests you? What are your concerns and how to coordinate with what you study.
The architecture itself is as flexible as some-times pretend to be with their projects. Take this opportunity.
Let's start with: what is it that I can offer that nobody else can?
I have always been people who think it depends on myself be indispensable.
Actions "in between". I added, you qualify, you specify. Walking the line parallel to the race, only that you choose how fast the drive.
With these arguments I called that day to Madrid. Welcome to the beginning.
Arquitectura.
Las acciones “in between”.

This period in America presents exci-ting. The weather is very well and the facilities that the New School is providing us are magnificent. In this part of the Master, we will learn to develop new strategies to be a good "story teller". In contrast to China, whose culture and strategies in this area are beginning to develop, in the U.S. spent decades being the best at it.
After all, we will be working in the same state of residence of the best creators of dreams ... Hollywood, CA.

The I.D.E.A. District is a 93-acre sustai-nable, mixed-use development in Down-town San Diego’s East Village neighbor-hood that is driven by a design-services job cluster. The District is a living labora-tory that fosters creative and collaborative energy in innovation, design, education, and the arts.
The concept for the District has been spearheaded by local real estate entre-preneurs David Malmuth and Pete Garcia.
In a little more than a year, 200 million people have become part of the new concept of social relations through the use of virtual tools or social networks.Where is the physical space consigned to in these new relations? Is it possible to materialize the new virtual space these people use on a daily basis? The society is rapidly changing and the architecture must be physically flexible enough in order to adapt and suggest ideal solutions.

The present project deals with several issues such as:
-The urban planning/grid of the city of San Diego, which is ideal for automobiles but it is not comfortable for citizens who travel on foot.
-Geolocation. Most significant uses in the Downtown area (as well as how to include them and mix them within the I.D.E.A. District concept)
-How much time do people spend trave-lling from one point to another? Could we maybe create an added value to those journeys?
-The city/district concept regarding social networks as the best option to understand the new society.
-Social networks as urban squares with uses and specific connections between them. The building as an information exchanging point
-New technologies and the use of the disctrict/street/building… as tools.

STRATERGY San Diego is probably one of the cities with the greatest potential for the entire West Coast. Its location on the border and share state with two of the major U.S. cities (San Francisco and Los Angeles) have managed to pass to a secondary plane. The climate, city size and the actual design of this are some of your strengths today.
The aim is to re-articulate a new part of the grid of the city to take advantage of these points.
The project in general, undertake the task of creating a new axis Balboa Park - Bay, linking the north and south of the city of San Diego, generating at the same time a green corridor articulated by 8 new proposals. These include (a piece-viewpoint for easy connection of the museum area of Balboa Park with the other side of levels’’’ in the area, an urban piece that tries to ease the use of the parking lot of San Diego, a building highway clings to cultivate energy ...).

The neighborhood where we focus in this book is the East Village, specifically the area that the IDEA District proposes to regenerate. Its location within the city (close to Downtown while preserving their privacy, uniqueness and identity) make this place in a future turning point in the growth and development of San Diego.
Because of the history of San Diego, this neighborhood that in the past was completely industry, has left dozens of warehouses [Fig. 04]. Some have managed to find their own use or hold activities according to their areas, but others are being demolished or are in a state of neglect. This is terrible for the neighborhood and for the IDEA District itself, as maintaining the essence of these industrial buildings and the quality of its spaces, should be one of the hallmarks of future district. The renovation and rehabilitation to new architectures that support it. Architectures in currently standby. Architectures vacancies.
Its proximity to Balboa Park and the chance to be the intermediate between the largest park in the city and the bay of San Diego, while across town, along with surrounding institutions, make this neigh
Arquitecturas vacantes.

borhood the perfect place to start thinking about I.D.E.A.
The East Village [FIG. 05] began as a neighborhood whose rental value, wealth and age of the population was a bit more consistent to the rest of the city. With the passage of time has undergone a process of migration to other parts of Downtown and were rearranged. Less and older population, many abandoned warehouses ... conditions have worsened and the value of land in the district. The proposal according with I.D.E.A. District aims to create spaces and archi-tectural value systems, which inject new renters in this area of the city and turn these decadence spaces into sanitized spaces. A new atmosphere.
With time and step by step, young people will see their interests reflected in these new spaces and businesses look to this district as a benchmark to open their businesses.

But ... How to generate an attractive product that is reference in Innovation, Design, Education and Art?
We are experiencing a dramatic social change. New technologies and the speed of exchange information because Social Networks [FIG. 06] have comple-tely volatilized our environment.
What is the role of architecture in this time? It is our mission as professionals begin to understand these new systems and try to provide solutions consistent and flexible enough to withstand the weight of this constant versatility.
These networks have grown in recent years at an impressive pace, to the point of having produced a very important cultural exchange that has revolutioni-zed the use of internet and therefore our relationships and lives.
Communication devices [FIG. 07] such as radio, which garnered 50 million users in 38 years, against internet, which has needed only three years to match the figure. For example, in the case of Social Networks, in just one year muevieron to 200 million people.

These figures should not lose sight and you have to take into account. New forms of communication and especially new methods of transferring information.
How does this change lead to architec-ture? How to develop a "Social Network City"? How to benefit from the use of mobile devices in our buildings and cities?
In the history of architecture and espe-cially from the 60s, there are many theories about how the citizens walk the cities.
They all present different solutions, but agree to identify the problem: the need to begin to consider aspects such as the experience of urban space beyond that is used as a visual element.

This is the situation in San Diego today. Each icon represents a different use and in turn are grouped by color.
However, if we look a little more carefu-lly, we can extract from the current grid to San Diego a grid much more precise, which identifies exactly where the streets are given more specific uses.
These new uses are proposed: Busi-ness, Commerce, Sport, Education, Arts and Free Time.
The big problem for the city of San Diego is that it is very well planned for the vehicle but it is very uncomfortable for pedestrians. [FIG. 01] People who do similar routes, we do not coincide in our travels. However, these connections are happe-ning in the virtual world. The citizens of San Diego have social relations because they share his same tastes virtually [FIG. 01], but they not have physical space to inhabit and to explore in common.

In addition, we lose a lot of time between the start and end of the route. Time to invest in anything or be using any electronic device.
What if we add to the routes the necessary and specific information using the pedestrian will perform on end? What if we could start the activity before arrive in the destination?
For example, we have a person number 1 and person number 2.Person 1 must go daily from point A to point B and always is on the same street.Person 2 should do the same but becau-se of the grid in San Diego always take another route across two streets north.
They share a virtual space in which are related but not a physical one.The city is being transformed into a place of passage and movement of information being dimensioned only to the virtual world.
The city should be used as a tool.

The exchange of information is produ-ced only by a route and negates the need to use the city as an information tool. For example, how to provide spaces "in between" providing for the use to be made as objective. How the tour extract resources for use in final space where we will arrive.
With all this, it is proposed replacement of a world on the other. Coexistence arises, where the worlds are parasitic. Each one will extract of its analog that they need and its only benefactor will be the passerby. The compulsive pedes-trian.
After analyzing the context and raised the issue, we will explain the proposal, which is divided into three scales of action: XXL (city), XL (district), L (building) and even the approach of a possible scale M (pedestrian) would be used as a tool for interacting with the other 3 scales.

This way that the information has to get arround the internet is what will try to give us the keys of how our future performan-ce would be.... How does the information transfer works in social networks?
XXL (city)
The study of the city of San Diego and its uses. Currently, the most important uses in it are: Business, Education, Sports, Commerce, Arts and Free Time. We will use this conclusions to find new uses and access, and why some points should get exactly the new district to be raised.
XL (district)
Both, the district and the future building or group of buildings, are presented as links between applications A and B within the city. That will give to the user the opportu-nity to tour the new space passing through the district and use this new area of the city as a place of information trans-fer.

The district is an “in between” space. The information comes from point A, and when it lands it is filtered and shared and then drive again to the final destintion, point B.
The district is where all the uses collide.
For reasons of timing and the length of the Master, the project propose based on a single volume, but the general idea consist of a set of articulators spaces throughout the district, where the “infor-mation filter building” or "Social Net-work" is not a single volume but a system of spaces within the system. Moreover the project will grab the place with the study of the old stores around the East Village and the importance of it conservation because of three reasons: to preserve the history of San Diego as an industrial city (identity), the interior quali-ty of these architectural spaces (spatiality), economic and energy savings when these old warehouses refuse (sustainability).

Suppose that there is a relationship between 4 people in the virtual world. The first one likes photography and also the second one. They perform information transfer within their own social network, for example Flikr. The problem comes when the first one wants to share this image that he uploaded (this information) to more people, but the place is just for photogra-phy lovers.
All these sub-social networks (Flickr, Linkedin ...) have an information transfer based on very specific topics (photography, professions...) but still, they all have something in common: the ability to share that information in a largest social network and reaching more people. For example: Facebook, Twitter, Youtube.
Now, because of these new platforms, the third one may access to this informa-tion and decide whether or not if he wants to access by clicking on the link. Even if he is interested, he could share share this information and this way will forward the fourth one.
L (edificio)

These kinds of connections are what will be proposed in the IDEA District and in this instance is exemplified in the propo-sed volume. Because at the end, this kind of common social networks function as squares.
The project will provide the city with a physical location where all the uses simul-taneously collapse and established rela-tionships in the verticality of the archi-tecture and the horizontality of the city.
The conclusions drawn by the study of the routes in San Diego, will generate access to the district depending on the application you want to get.
The user could choose to walk normally around the city or start to select the use he wants to do several streets before reaching its destination. Thus, the acti-vity begins to be made along the way and not at the end of this.

In addition, the district and strategy passively dilate and invade the rest of the city.
M (citizen)
On the other hand, the building or the whole location is seen as an unic event in itself. The project materials, the squa-res, the industrial reference... tries to provide flexibility to the user to interact with it.
The building is no longer an inanimate being. The building has become a tool for citizens.
As we mentioned before, as long as the citizen invests his time to cross from A to B, he often uses this way using electro-nic devices.
How could we take advantage of this acts?

For example, the new district offers a rental space for meetings. A business employer comes from San Francisco to meet with another who comes from Mexico and they decided to use our district as a meeting place, because it offers accommodation and facilities for that meeting. What if the one from San Francisco could start making his presen-tation at an LED screen as they get closer to the building of the new district? What if the building is used as a marketing tool?
The objective is the district to be used as an event in itself and interacting with him is crucial.
Nowadays much effort is being invested making, for example, mobile applica-tions for very specific issues, energy and awareness of nature. It is true that it’s necessary to know how much water you're spending on your day to day or light consumption or if your car should pollute less ... But, being pragmatic and analyzing the use of these tools by the people, At least, which percent of the popullation really cares about it, instead of the ones that really knows about what they are talking about?

Other areas should also be investiga-ted, at the same time they could be of more immediate use for the user of the city, because what it is proposed now requires a change of mind that not ever-yone has done yet. It is equally necessary to study sustainable city as their social study for the comfort of the citizen. In fact, again both must maintain a simbiosis relationship, where one can give the other what he needs and otherwise. Some examples in this regard are: ...per-haps the streetlights of our cities should not be on all night long. Ignition could technify your mobile usage within the district and turn on the lamp at the time in which we will use the street.
Another might be: if the Sport use is being crossed by an athlete, the scale M data should bring him informatione along the route (speed, weight, calories, impro-vements over the previous week ... points to refresh himself ...). Furthermore, this route should be thought of as a training circuit itself, that among other things, whether the athlete is on his way to the gym, he could warm up before he gets there.

Or for example, the establishment of an urban machine that is throughout the district and can be activated also via mobile. One element that is displayed on the facade and could be either amphitheater, bleachers or as basketball court ... The M scale talks about this kind of flexibility and connection of the city with the citizen.
With these four scales as development tools of the project, the district as a place of innovation, design, education and arts, must be sell as experimental space internationally. Its geographical and physical conditions, as well as its scale and proximity to many companies that are interested in this area and looking for new spaces to "invade", makes it the ideal place to contribute to a change in our perspective, and future project facelift of the city of San Diego.
After all, the district is where the city collides.
