How To: A Beginners Guide to Writing and Scheduling Social
Media Posts on Tweet Deck
In today’s society, there is not a more important resource than social media
when it comes to reaching the masses. Whether it be a call-to-action or simply
an FYI, Twitter is one of the largest platforms to post on.
Writing social media posts can be daunting, but as long as you follow this simple
formula, it’s a piece of cake:
[Relevance to that person/group + the thing/event you are promoting + link/where to find more]
Obviously, this formula is mainly relevant to posts that are either a call to action
or as a means of informing people of an event/resource, but the essence is this:
keep it simple, keep it relevant. With Twitters 140-character limit, it can make
posting a little more challenging.
Sometimes you may want to spend a little more time on a post, or perhaps you
are considering posting multiple times in a short space of time. Whilst it’s
important to make sure you aren’t posting too much, an excellent resource for
this is Post Scheduling Software. An excellent website for Twitter scheduling is
called Tweet Deck.
1) Open up the website (tweetdeck.twitter.com). Click on the circled ‘Log In’ button below.
2) Log in using your Twitter account details (as if you were logging in to twitter).
3) This is the main Dashboard. It looks a but hectic, but luckily we can ignore most of this. All
we leed to focus on is the toolbar on the left.
4) To schedule your first tweet, click on the ‘new tweet’ button circled below.
5) Write your tweet in the white box below. You can copy and paste emojis from an online
emoji keyoard. You can also add photos or videos (under 2:20) using the ‘add images or
video’ button (circled).
6) Once you have written your tweet, and added any emojis/videos/photos that you want, you
can move on to scheduling. This makes sure that your tweet is sent out on the day you want,
at the time you want.
Use the calendar circled below to select the day you want, then type in the time you want
into the boxes above (circled). Make sure you have selected the am/pm button for the time
you want to schedule the post for!
7) Once you have checked over your tweet and the day/time, you are ready to schedule it!
Click the ‘tweet at’ button (circled), and it’ll pop up on the ‘Scheduled’ column on your
dashboard (arrowed).
8) If you want to delete a tweet, you can do so by scrolling down on the ‘Scheduled’ column
until you reach the tweet you wish to delete, then press the ‘delete’ button (circled).
You cannot recover a deleted tweet, and you cannot reschedule a tweet that is already
scheduled – so make sure you copy-and-paste the original tweet you would like to change
into the ‘new tweet’ box before deleting
And you’re done! You can now schedule as many posts as you wish! This is a particularly useful skill if
you want to have tweets sorted in asvance – for example, for a Bank Holiday. Tweet Deck will still put
out your tweets even if it isn’t running, so you can close your browser/tab if you’re finished.
