Page 1: How the ScienceOpen Platform Utilizes ORCID

For a platform that encourages open science, transparency and accurate identification of members is critical.

ScienceOpen requires an ORCID ID during the registration process to uniquely identify users and populate their profiles. The site uses the ORCID ID to manage authorization levels, including qualification to peer review during the publication process. ORCID profiles are linked to articles published by ScienceOpen to facilitate browsing or search by author.

The ORCID API is called via web services to authenticate and provide access to an ORCID profile including works, education, employment and funding. The ScienceOpen profile is synchronized with ORCID so that information is current and the researcher need only change their information in one place to update multiple profiles on a variety of systems.

The ScienceOpen integration with ORCID provides a way to identify researchers and the work that they have done in the past so they can quickly register and start utilizing the research platform.

ScienceOpen is a freely accessible online platform for Open Access publishing and scientific networking.
