Romans 12:3-83 For by the grace given me  I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.  4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,  5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body,  and each member belongs to all the others.  6 We have different gifts,  according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying,  then prophesy in accordance with your  faith;  7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;  8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement;  if it is giving, then give generously;  if it is to lead,  do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully

Romans 12:9-119 Love must be sincere.  Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.  10 Be devoted to one another in love.  Honor one another above yourselves.  11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor,  serving the Lord.

Hebrews 131Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. 2 Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.

Hebrews 133 Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.

1 Peter 122 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.

“One Another”There are 54 "one anothers" in the New

Testament that teach us how to treat each other, meaning those of us who belong to the body of Christ.

“One Another”in Paul’s letter Rom 12:10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another

in showing honor. Rom 12:16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but

associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Rom 13:8 Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who

loves another has fulfilled the law. Rom 14:13 Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer,

but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.

Rom 14:19 So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.

Rom 15:5 May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus,

Rom 15:7 Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.

Rom 15:14 I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another.

Rom 16:16 Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you.

Henry Cloud’s Experience “From him the whole body, joined and held together    by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” Eph 4:16

“I was waiting for God to give me his grace through supernatural zapping; he was giving it to me through his people.  I was waiting for him to speak to me directly; he was speaking to me through his people…I was waiting for him to heal my depression: he sent special people to comfort me….When I went to graduate school and studied theology, I discovered that this is the doctrine of the church.” How People Grow

The Role the Church and Community plays in Spiritual Transformation and Healing

Connection“People’s most basic need in life is relationship.  People connected to other people thrive and grow, and those not connected wither and die.  It is a medical fact, for example, that from infancy to old age, health depends on the amount of social connection people have…At the emotional level, connection is the sustaining factor for the psyche, the heart and spirit. Virtually every emotional and psychological problem, from addictions to depression, has alienation or emotional isolation at its core or close to it.  Recovery from these problems always involves helping people to get more connected to each other at deeper and healthier levels.”How People Grow

The Power of Relationship“The development of a healthy human relationship with a mature, loving soul caregiver can be a catalyst for a breakthrough in one’s relationship with God, as one experiences—perhaps for the first time—a concrete, healing exemplification of God’s love and holiness.”Eric Johnson, Foundations for Soul Care

Recovering from Type A and Type B Trauma

“Type A traumas require caring people to make up for the deficits you suffered as a child.  Type B wounds require remembering and healing.  Both types of traumas leave lies, which need to be exposed, broken and replaced with the truth.”Living from the Heart God Gave You

Trauma and Recovery“Recovery can take place only in the context of relationships; it cannot occur in isolation.  In her renewed connections with other people, the survivor re-creates the psychological faculties that were damaged or deformed by the traumatic experience. . . Just as these capabilities are originally formed in relationships with other people, they must be reformed in such relationships.” Trauma and Recovery, Judith Herman

No Solitary Religion“Sir, you wish to serve God and go to heaven?  Remember that you cannot serve him alone.  You must therefore find companions or make them; the Bible knows nothing of solitary religion.”—John Wesley
