HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL

I believe due to the genre of my magazine being indie, this represents a large stereotypical audience of teenagers who enjoy and love many types of music- specifically indie music. My target audience was between 16-24 and on my reader profile I stated the average audience age of my magazine is 18 and I believe I have represented this with the choice of artists and pull quotes and features in my magazine. For example, “Clean Bandit”, “Arctic Monkeys’ and my plug “Win Glasto tickets” would appeal to my target audience of music loving teenagers and represents the 16-24 demographic. On my cover the anchorage text reads “Lauren Schofield is back!” which would suggest she is releasing new material which would excite the target audience of music-loving 16-24 year olds. My research tells me there are 7 million 16-24 year olds in the UK, they account for 11% of the population- they read less nowadays and are more interested with using the internet so I have accommodated this by putting the content on the website www.soundwave.co.uk .

The content of my magazine is fairly unisex, much like NME and Q which I used for inspiration throughout the production of my magazine. The content is more music based, my research told me that my target audience of teenagers are more interested in reading about new album releases and interviews than gossip.

Demographics

After consulting the demographics table, I understand that my magazine will appeal mostly to social grade E in terms of students who often only have casual jobs or are unemployed as they are young and busy with college work and studying. Therefore the price of the magazine is tailored to suit them at £2.50 a month which is affordable for everyone. However, this magazine is affordable for all social groups and may appeal to older people who occupy the D, C1, C2, B categories who are still interested in music as they listened to this type of music in their youth.
