Nothing Compares to a cup or bucket of fresh, warm chocolate chip cookies straight out of the oven. Visit the new Barksdale’s State Fair Chocolate Chip Cookie building! The new state of the art building makes roughly 34,000 cookies an hour using Joe and Virginia Barksdale’s famous recipe. The building is located on the Grand Concourse, west of the Grandstand. Food tickets can be purchased in packs of five for $5. Each food ticket is good for $1 toward food or beverage purchases on the Fairgrounds. Food tickets are only available for purchase at the Iowa State Fair Ticket Office while supplies last.

• Discounted Admission: $10 adult admission, $6 child (age 6–11) admission available at the gate Monday–Thursday evenings from 5 to 10 p.m.

• Veterans Day (Monday, August 16): $10 admission for active and former members of the United States Armed Forces and their spouse from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Older Iowans’ Day (Wednesday, August 18): $10 admission for Fairgoers ages 60 and older from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Extreme Sunday (Sunday, August 22): $10 adult admission (ages 12 and over) and $6 child admission (ages 6–11). $7 adult admission (ages 12 and over) with the donation of 3 cans of non-perishable food (until 5 p.m.)

Tickets for Grandstand concerts and events are on sale through etix.com or by phone at 800-514-3849. All concert seats are reserved. Convenience charges apply to all tickets. The Iowa State Fair Ticket Office opens July 6 for walk-up orders only (while tickets remain). Grandstand tickets do not include admission to the Fair.

Beginning July 6, the Iowa State Fair Ticket Office will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday and 9 a.m. to Noon on Saturday for walk-up orders only. It is located on the front porch of the Administration Building on the Fairgrounds. Fair products are available while supplies last.

Thrill Town• Thrill Town features kid-friendly rides in a fun,

clean and convenient location without having to navigate the larger Thrill Park areas. Thrill Town is located east of Gate 10 and directly north of the Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center Lawn.

Thrill Ville• Thrill Ville offers a clean and family-friendly

atmosphere but focuses on the spectacular, jaw-dropping and super-speed screams of the best of today’s rides. Thrill Ville is located between the Grandstand and Ye Old Mill.

Thrill Zone• Thrill Zone is for Fairgoers seeking breathtaking,

heart-stopping and hair-raising adventure. Thrill zone is located north of Gate 11 on the west side of the Fairgrounds.

Advanced Unlimited Ride Wristband*• $36 (includes wristband)

Good for 1 day of unlimited rides Monday–Thursday until 10 p.m. in Thrill Town and Thrill Ville. Does not include games, but credits can be added at the Thrill Park Booths. The wristband is reloadable after 10 p.m. for further rides and games. Each Fairgoer wishing to ride or play games in Thrill Town and Thrill Ville must have their own wristband.

Advanced Thrill Pass Wristband*• $25 for 35 credits (includes wristband)

Good all day, any day on any ride or game in Thrill Town and Thrill Ville. Wristband is reloadable at the Fair.

• Weapons of any kind are not permitted on the Fairgrounds. Firearms are prohibited on the Iowa State Fairgrounds with or without a valid Iowa permit to carry. Please allow additional time for bag checks, park entrance, and metal detectors. Grandstand bags and backpacks will be subject to search upon entry.

• “Kid Find” wristbands will be available at the Hall of Law, at the Des Moines Radio Group booth at the west end of the Grandstand and at all information booths on the grounds.

The Iowa State Fairgrounds is located at East 30th Street and East University Avenue, 10 minutes east of downtown Des Moines.

Courtesy Carts: Golf cart mini-shuttle service (not wheelchair accessible) from north parking lots to inner gates is available. Golf carts are not available for rent for reasons of safety and liability.Shuttles: For Fairgoers’ convenience, the Fair will provide the free Blue Line Parking Shuttle sponsored by Homemakers Furniture, running daily from 5:30 a.m.-1 a.m. The Blue Line Parking Shuttle has 5 routine stops and will stop at Gates 13 & 15 for entry to the Fair.• Campground shuttles will run from the First

Church to the campgrounds and will be stopping at Pioneer Hall.

• Due to safety protocols, the inner grounds trams will not be running. Please plan accordingly for additional walking or contact HomeTown Mobility at 1-877-978-5388 to reserve a scooter. Scooters are available at Gate 8, 10, 11, 13 & 15. Personal golf carts are not allowed on the Fairgrounds.

Iowa’s largest parade kicks-off Wednesday, August 11, at 6:15 p.m. with nearly 200 floats, animals, novelty and performing units. The parade route starts at the State Capital Complex and marches west on Grand to 15th Street. The parade will be broadcasted live on IPTV starting at 6:15 p.m.

Fairgoers can park their car for free and ride DART buses for a quick, easy and direct trip to the Iowa State Fair. Fairgoers will be dropped off and picked up at the DART Transit Hub sponsored by Select Iowa Buick GMC Dealers at Gate 10 of the Fairgrounds.

Free parking is available at three locations from 8:30 a.m. to midnight every day of the Fair:

• Center Street Park & Ride - 7th and Center Street; enter on 7th Street

• Southeast Polk High School - N.E. 80th Street and Highway 163

• Iowa State Capitol - on East 12th Street, east side of the Capitol building near the State Capitol bell

DART round-trip fares can be purchased at the Park & Ride locations and are cash only, day of ride. Show your Iowa State Fair advance admission ticket and receive half off the round-trip fare. Exact change appreciated. Tickets can also be purchased through the free MyDART app for half off the round-trip fare.One-way fares are available upon request. All buses are wheel-chair accessible.

$2 adults (11-64); $1 children ages 6-10, adults (65+), Medicare card holders and people with accessibility needs (half-fare); children 5 and younger are free.

As of 6.18.21, TSA requires all riders to wear a mask when on the bus. Riders are encouraged to bring their own mask, and masks will be available onboard. DART will update information on its website if this requirement changes.
