CuttingWOF = Width of Fabric Fabric A, cut:(1) 13” x WOF (33.02cm x WOF); sub-cut (2) 13” (33.02cm) squares(8) 51⁄2” x WOF (13.97cm x WOF) for border

Fabric B, cut:(1) 13” x WOF (33.02cm x WOF); sub-cut (2) 13” (33.02cm) squares(8) 21⁄2” x WOF (6.35cm x WOF) for binding

Fabrics C through H, cut from each:(1) 13” x WOF (33.02cm x WOF); sub-cut (2) 13” (33.02cm) squares

Fabrics I through AB, cut from each:(1) 13” (33.02cm) square

InstructionsAll seam allowances are 1⁄4” (.64cm) and pieces are sewn right sides together. The cutting of the patches for the Cross Blocks is free-form, creating unique block pairs with a similar look. As a result every quilt will be unique. Select fabric pairs ran-domly or use the Quilt Layout diagram as a color guide.

1. Select (2) different fabric 13” (33.02cm) squares and layer on top of each other with right sides up. (Fig. 1)

2. Cut (2) gentle curves horizontally across the layered squares, approximately cutting into thirds. Then repeat cutting vertically to create (9) wonky patches. (Fig. 2)

3. Leaving the squares layered, swap the bottom fabric with the top fabric on the (4) corner patches. (Fig. 3)

4. Using the top layer pieces only, sew (3) rows of (3) patches each, pressing the seam allowances in opposite directions. Sew the rows together (seams may not match). Trim the resulting Cross Block to 111⁄2” (29.21cm) square. (Fig. 4) Repeat to make a second block with the remaining layer.

Quilt Top AssemblyNote: Follow the Quilt Layout diagram on page 6 while assembling the quilt.

6. Sew (5) blocks together in a row, which should measure 111⁄2” x 551⁄2” (29.21cm x 140.97cm). Repeat to make a total of (7) rows, pressing the seam allowances in opposite directions. There will be (1) block left over.

7. Sew the (7) rows together to complete the quilt center, which should measure 551⁄2” x 771⁄2” (140.97cm x 196.85cm).

8. Sew (2) Fabric A border strips together along a short edge. Make (4). From pieced strips, cut (2) 51⁄2” x 771⁄2” (13.97cm x 196.85cm) side borders and (2) 51⁄2” x 651⁄2” (13.97cm x 166.37cm) top/bottom borders. Sew the side borders to the left and right edges of the quilt center. Press seam allowances towards the border. Sew the top/bottom borders to the quilt center to complete the quilt top. Press the seam allowances toward the border.

Finishing9. Sew together the (8) 21⁄2” x WOF (6.35cm x WOF)

Fabric B binding strips end to end using diagonal seams. Press seams open. Press the binding strip in half wrong sides together.

10. Layer backing (wrong side up), batting, and quilt top (right side up). Baste the layers together and quilt as desired. Trim excess batting and backing even with the top after quilting is completed.

11. Leaving an 8” (20.32cm) tail of binding, sew the binding to the top of the quilt through all layers matching all raw edges. Miter corners. Stop approximately 12” (30.48cm) from where you started. Lay both loose ends of binding flat along quilt edge. Where the loose ends meet, fold them back on themselves and press to form a crease. Using this crease as your stitching line, sew the two open ends of the binding right sides together. Trim seam to 1⁄4” (.64cm) and press open. Finish sewing binding to quilt.

12. Turn the binding to the back of quilt and hand-stitch in place.
