This starting question is a really great challenge for any Club, Academy, Team.
José Mourinho, on May 2015, during the presentation of one Football Master at
Faculty of Human Kinetics – Technical University of Lisbon, put it simply that way:

“There are two kinds of coaches: those who enhance their teams and players
performance and those who do not.”

I) Top quality TEAM’s Play
II) Technically developed INDIVIDUALS
tend to be more important then ever

HOW DO WE WANT TO PLAY AND WHY?
If we recognize Superior Collective Idea of Play as being more prone in enhancing
TEAM and INDIVIDUALS (example: Guardiola’s Philosophy?)
What distinguishes a superior idea of play?

HOW DO WE WANT TO PLAY AND WHY?
Though there are not two teams playing the same way, and that each TOP Team has
their own traits, it´s important to recognize:
Top Teams Quality Play is characterized by a complex organization that is shaped as a
consequence of how to find the opponent net.
As a consequence, controlling the game by having initiative comes as a need that
allows to win more times.

COMMON PATTERNS amongst TOP Teams
Quality ball circulation is objective and intelligent
(Lecture Suggestion: Sousa, D. ,2009)
Several Players, besides attackers, with capacity to appear in Scoring Zones (enhancing surprise factor);
All Teams think their How to Play in terms of its global organization(having mechanisms of compensation and balance that evidence that organization)
From this, I highlight 4 dynamic characteristics (patterns) common to Top Teams (despite they can
be expressed through different Specific shapes/morphologies):

COMMON PATTERNS amongst TOP Teams
I TOTTALLY BELIEVE IT IS!
Is it possible through identifying these common patterns to systematize them our coaching
reality, as being the most efficient way to enhance it independently of the level we find?

Players are other key element of every How we Play.
It is also for them and as a function of their characteristics and qualities that we
idealize how to play. Players interpret individual and collectively what is idealized,
expressing it through complex dynamics and sub dynamics that give shape to our
How we Play.
How we Play results, thus, from the interaction of what is idealized and
players characteristics and qualities.

ENHANCING COLLECTIVE AND INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT
(Lecture Suggestion: Sousa, D. ,2009)
Having as a support this systematization, it is possible to shape and refine certain
dynamics and sub dynamics during the construction of how we want to play, in order
to enhance collective and individual performance.
