How do we measure the weather?

Weather The daily atmospheric conditions Includes temperature, pressure, wind

speed and direction, relative humidity, and precipitation.

Temperature Thermometer: Degrees Fahrenheit or

Degrees Celsius.

Pressure A barometer measures atmospheric

pressure in inches or millibars. Normal pressure at sea level is about 30 inches or 1013 millibars of pressure.

Wind Speed Anemometer

Wind Direction Wind Vane/Weather Vane. The pointer

shows the direction of the wind.

Relative Humidity Psychrometer Relative humidity is a measure of the amount of

water in the air compared with the amount of water the air can hold at the temperature it happens to be when you measure it.

For example, you measure 20 grams of water vapor at room temperature. At room temperature the air can hold 40 grams of water vapor.

Relative humidity = 20 grams/40 grams = 0.5 * 100= 50% humidity.

Precipitation Rain Gauge or Meter Stick (for snow and

ice)
