How many habitats can u find in this picture ?

Page 5: How do living things interact

EcoSystem

An ecosystem has many habitats for many animals .

Page 6: How do living things interact

Can you only see living things in the ecosystem ?

Sun

Water

soil

Air

Page 7: How do living things interact

a place where living and non living things interact . The ecosystem can be big like an ocean or small like a

pond. It can be wet like the sea or dry like the desert.

Living things

Non-Living things

• Animals • Plants

• Water• Sun & air• Soil

Page 9: How do living things interact

Let’s make our own ecosystem !!Put 2 living things + 2 non-living things in your

ecosystem

Page 10: How do living things interact

We know that All living things need :

Food Water Shelter

All living things need food to get energy.but where do they get their food from ?

Page 11: How do living things interact

Living things

Producers

Consumers

Decomposers

Produce their own food

Eat other animals or plants

Eat Dead animals or plants.

Page 12: How do living things interact

Where do plants get their food from ?

Plants produce their own food , using the sun’s

energy .

That’s why they’re called Producers

Page 13: How do living things interact

Producers All plants are producers.

Algae Water plants

grasstrees

Page 14: How do living things interact

Consumers

A panda eats plants like bamboo or animals like :

fish A lion eats other animals .

All animals can NOT make their own food like plants, they get their energy by consuming (eating) other animals or plants .

All animals are called consumers .

Page 15: How do living things interact

Dinosaurs were extinct along time ago, so we only saw their skeletons.

BUT, where did their body go ?

Page 16: How do living things interact

Decomposers • worm and bacteria feed on the dead bodies of

animals and plants .• They are called Decomposers.

Worms Bacteria

Page 17: How do living things interact

Fungus is also a

decomposer .

Page 18: How do living things interact

Decomposers feed on dead animals and

plants.

Page 19: How do living things interact

Decomposers

Page 20: How do living things interact

Decomposers like worms and bacteria break down the bodies of dead animals and plants, and return the nutrients back to the soil.

Page 21: How do living things interact

What would happen without decomposers ?

Without them, piles of dead plants and animals would

build up and cover the earth !!

All consumers get energy by eating other animals or plants .

Some consumers only eat plants Other consumers only eat animals Others can eat both plants and animals

There are 3 groups of consumers named according to what they eat !!

Prey and predator A consumer can be a predator or a prey.

Predator Prey Consumers that eat the prey . Consumers that are eaten .

In these pictures the predators are :• The Wild cat • The Eagle• The Cheetah

In these pictures the preys are :• The Rabbit• The Fish• The Gazelle

Page 32: How do living things interact

An animal can be a prey and a predator too !!

In the first picture the snake was a prey , but in the 2nd picture it’s the predator .

When the eagle dies the Decomposers will

breakdown the body and turn it into nutrients.

All food chains always Begin with a producer.

Page 36: How do living things interact

Food web In an ecosystem you can see many

animals eating the Same plant or the same animal.

This will form a Food web made of many Food chains connected together.

Food web :Made up of many food chains connected together .

Interdependency: Every organism depends on other organisms to survive. What would happen if one living organism disappeared ? Example : if the grass didn’t get any sunlight.

Grass dies > grasshopper dies > rat dies >snake dies > hawk dies
