Canvas recently introduced a new page design called the New Canvas User Interface (UI) Dependingon your Canvas view your institution login page and Canvas page designs may vary from the imagesshown in this lesson However the functionality and location of the components remain the same If you created your own Canvas account you can reset your password through a link in the passwordrequest email If your login credentials were provided to you by your institution you will not be able to reset your Canvaspassword on your own Additionally if you log in to Canvas using your institutions authentication systemyou can only reset your password through your institutions website If you request a password reset andthe email does not have a password reset link it will include your Canvas email address and theinstitution that provided you with your password Contact the system administrators at your institutionabout changing or verifying your password Note If you can log in to Canvas and want to change your password please visit the How do I changemy login password lesson

Email Errors

If you enter your email address and never get a password reset email review the following passwordtips

Have you typed your email address correctly Sometimes email addresses can be misspelledAre you accessing the correct Canvas URL You will not get the reset email if you are trying toreset your password on a site where you are not enrolled (such as canvasinstructurecom insteadof myinstitutioninstructurecom)

Is your Canvas email sponsored by your institution If your mail email address is part of acampus firewall system that blocks emails from mass senders you wont be able to receive theemail Contact your institutions IT department for assistance

Are you the owner of your email address If your email address is owned by someone else andyou cant receive email for that address you wont be able to get the reset email Contact the ownerof the email address for assistance

Reset Password

In a new browser window open to your Canvas login page Click the Dont know your password link Note If your login screen does not show the password reset link contact your institution for assistance

Request Password

Enter the login information associated with your Canvas account and click the Request Passwordbutton Note The email field validates against conventional email addresses You will receive a notification ifyou try to submit an entry for the password reset that is not a conventional email address

Check Email

Return to your email account and sign in Open the Forgot Password email (If the email is not in yourInbox check your Spam folder)

Open Password Link

Change Password
