Establish Your DEF Needs

The first step in the DEF buying process is to determine how much Diesel Exhaust Fluid you will need.

The reference chart below can be used as a guide to estimate your company’s potential DEF usage. Brenntag offers 2.5 Gallon Jugs, 55 Gallon Drums, 330 Gallon IBCs, partial bulk and full tanker truckloads.

Assumptions: *120,000 miles per year, 6 MPG. **2% DEF per gallon of diesel

Equipment Solutions

DEF should be kept in “closed” containers to prevent contaminants from entering the product which can lead to clogged filters and injectors.

Several equipment manufacturers are available to assist in offering dispensing systems to meet your needs. Equipment options can be discussed with your DEF sales representative.

You will also need to consider the following:

• What package size do you need now & in the future? • How do you want to receive the product, returnable packages or on-site fill? • How & where should Diesel Exhaust Fluid be stored on your site? • Do you have the capability to pump the DEF?

Demand DEF Quality

Your company has a large investment in your fleet and it is important to keep your trucks running efficiently. This same commitment is the reason to insist on high quality, API Certified, Diesel Exhaust Fluid.

DEF is manufactured to strict ISO 22241, AUS 32 and DIN 70070 standards. These standards ensure proper manufacturing, testing and handling procedures. Diesel Exhaust Fluid should only be purchased from companies that provide proof that they follow these standards.

HOW DEF WORKSDiesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is used in conjunction with SCR technology to reduce harmful pollution from heavy duty diesel vehicles by more than 90% due to the EPA’s implementation of the 2010 EPA Diesel Emissions Standards.

Through the combination of SCR and UltraPure DEF, particulate matter emissions are reduced by breaking down NOx into harmless nitrogen and water molecules. With the use of DEF, 2.6 million tons of smog-causing NOx emissions will be reduced yearly.
