HOW CAN I GET SERVICES? If you are a former Foster Youth with a closed case

Contact your ILP Probation Officer or a transition resource center.

Complete an intake assessment with your ILP Probation Officer.

Make sure you keep a copy of your assessment and planning documents.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Probation foster youth who were in suitable placement the ages of 16 and 21 years old are eligible for services.

Probation foster youth who were dependents in the child welfare system after age 16.

Probation foster youth who were in Suitable Placement between the ages 16-18 and who were placed with a relative (receiving relative funding).

WHAT IS A TILP?

A guide to help prepare youth for adulthood.

A planning tool for County staff to use in preparing youth to transition successfully into adulthood.

A map for caretakers to use in helping youth meet

their goals. A key element for the County’s Emancipation

Program is designed to prepare youth, in out-of-home placement, for successful lives as adults.

A youth’s ticket to receive emancipation services

and benefits for educational, career and housing needs.

Education-related costs

Independent Living Program (ILP life skills training classes, financial aid workshop, computer classes, mentoring and youth conferences, educational assessments/tutoring

Tuition, books, supplies, clothing,

transportation fees (including parking),tutoring and scholarship

High school graduation expenses/incentives

Work-related costs

Clothing, tools, professional/union dues, vocational and educational assessments, and cost for interview process, referrals to job training/hiring programs

Transportation cost related to job search, work

Referral to transitional housing programs Rooms and board

- Apartment start-up expenses (No sublease)

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

Assistance with car insurance premiums Driving instruction Aftercare services, including referrals to counseling,

legal aid, job placement and training, medical not covered by Medi-Cal and beyond youth’s financial means

Referrals to parenting classes, nutrition, drug and alcohol counseling, et cetera.

Youth Development Services (YDS) provides services and resources for foster youth, previously or currently placed in a Short-Term Residential Treatment Center (formerly Group Home)

at the age of 16 or older. YDS can help you successfully transition from dependency to self-sufficiency.
