Activity b: Making “blood”
Pour some golden syrup into a clear jar to represent the plasma. Plasma that is the liquid part of blood and it carries the other parts of the blood in it. Add some small red sweets such as red smarties, M&Ms or similar. These represent the red blood cells which carry oxygen around the body. Add some larger pale coloured sweets, e.g. marshmallows. These represent the white blood cells that help fight disease. Finally add some baking sprinkles to represent the platelets that are important for the clotting of blood.
If you cannot ‘make’ blood, then look at an image of blood taken with a microscope using a google search and identify the different components.
Activity c: Draw a diagram in your books and label the different parts of blood.
