Program—June 18

A Photo Tour of Morocco

Leslie and John Niemand will present images from Mo-

rocco—a kingdom with many exotic-sounding places—

Casablanca, Marrakech, Fes, the Atlas mountains, the Sa-

hara. Morocco is a land of contrasts. You will see old and

modern; wealth and poverty; diverse peoples and terrain.

Leslie and John spent three weeks in Morocco on a photo

tour in November, 2012, led by local photographer, Kathy

Adams Clark. Now, you can travel to Morocco, without any

TSA worries, from the comfort of your chair at the June

program meeting. They will share their images and com-

ments and answer questions.

New Members: Charlotte McNulty has rejoined the

club. She is using Canon equipment and enjoys nature,

and travel photography and also photographing children.

Thejas Rajaram has also rejoined the club. He was an

active member last year, and we are glad that he is back.

Member News: Henry Peterman and Howard

Pollack went to Big Bend on a photo/hiking trip. They

spent three days in the national park and another in Big

Bend State Park. They saw beautiful scenery. Their

major disappointment was that the Rio Grande was so

low that no float trips were possible.

Steve Goldberg traveled to Fort Davis for his second

hobby, astronomy.

like, it’s another thing to make a portrait of who they

are.”

Outdoor Portrait Workshop—June 2

The portrait workshop will be held Sunday, June 2, at

6:30 p.m.. Mark Katz and Joe Sandler will lead the

workshop. The spot we have chosen is a small lake with

rocks and a fountain. Two models will be available.

Bring your tripod, a reflector, diffuser and a flash if you

have them. For full frame cameras, the traditional lens

for portraits is 85 to 135mm. Choose your lens accord-

ing to your camera’s crop factor. You may also want to

bring insect repellant.

Directions: From I-10, take Eldridge Parkway south.

After driving about 1/3 mile, turn east onto Enclave

Parkway. The pond is located on Enclave about 100

yards north of Sandbridge St. There is parking across

from the end of Sandbridge St and also a parking garage

across Enclave from the lake.

Refreshments—Volunteers Needed

We need volunteers to bring refreshments to the club’s

competition and program or workshop meetings. Please

choose a date and sign up at the competition meeting in

June. We would like to fill out the list for the next

several months.

Everyone enjoys the refreshments at each meeting.

Please do your part to help.

Rachel Burychka and Carolyn McEathron—Hospitality

Chairs.

Photography Exhibit At MFAH

A new photography exhibit is opening at the Museum of

Fine Arts, Houston. Faking It: Manipulated Photogra-

phy before Photoshop, opens June 2 and will continue

through August 25. It is held in the Beck Building on the

lower level.

Faking It shows many types of manipulation used before

the digital photography revolution. The ability to modify

camera images is as old as photography itself.

Admission to the exhibit is included as part of admission

to the museum.
