InitiativesHousing as a Business (HaaB) OFNTSC was invited to participate in a “Housing as a Business” initiative of

Indian and Northern Affairs Canada – Ontario Region. The objective is to help facilitate change in attitudes of all First Nation housing stakeholders to consider the feasibility of housing as a revenue generator or an economic driver.

OFNTSC was asked to participate on the Advisory team along with other First Nations and government such as AANDC, CMHC and others.

The goals of the advisory team are:• Help advance the Housing as a Business (HaaB) concept on First Nations as determined by

the First Nation. • Recommend and guide strategic HaaB plans and priorities for the First Nation. • Recommend specific actions and best practices to develop HaaB on your First Nation. • Foster communication among First Nations practitioners that wish to develop Housing as a

Business on their First Nation • Focus on changing attitudes to consider housing as a business rather than a social or capital

program.• Help develop several Ontario First Nation HaaB sponsored demonstration projects. • Evaluate, monitor and make recommendations to stakeholders and practitioners on the

demonstration projects to enhance the success of the businesses. • Develop specific tools and templates for HaaB practitioners
