strategies for the Larimer community
Master PlanThe master plan addresses major issues in the layout and vacancies of the existing residential fabric in Larimer. Through a series of housing and green space typologies, the project acts as a tool for reorganization for the com-munity, allowing a concentration and strengthening of housing in the central zone of the neighborhood as well as the weaving of green spaces and public paths through the neighborhood.

StreetBlock TypologiesFive different typologies of usable green space can be identified and applied throughout at the scale of the neighborhood. These spaces work to serve the greater community and its residents providing food, safety, transit, and water remediation:1: Public Square- A large gathering green space near a major node of community activity which can be used for neighborhood events and gatherings2: Community Gardens- Small scale green space heavily enclosed by housing and used to provide food and herbs for families in the immediate area3: Recreational Edge: Located on the edge of a block and adjacent to other dense block areas, this green space provides a safe and semi-sheltered space for families

Block Typologies4: Neighborhood Paths- Long blocks of houses which used to contain underutilized and overgrown allies are transformed into pedestrian and bicycle transit routes with water remediation and geothermal systems running along the paths. The foundations of vacant, demolished houses and garages are reutilized as small recreational areas, greenhouses, and community gardens.5: Promenade Apartments- Along the steeply sloping edge of the neighborhood, a new park promenade and roadway are being employed. In addition, large scale recreational areas infiltrate into the neighborhood, con-necting residents with the promenade park. Along the promenade and park-scapes, mixed income apartments will provide housing for both existing and new residents in the neighborhood

Housing TypologiesWithin the five block typologies, the project utilizes three housing typologies which relate to the green spaces within each block. These include the single family home, the rowhouse, and the apartment development. Each ty-pology stresses the importance of solar passive strategies, natural ventilation, reusable materials, indoor-outdoor spaces, and safety. In addition, plantings are used to help define the separation between private property and public land, and each new housing unit is connected to the larger neighborhood park space through recycled brick pathways.
