Catering Our cafeteria on the campus provides local and international dishes.

The Zebu Club provides a friendly atmosphere and a variety of food and drinks. Our gardens are ideal for outdoor events such as cocktails and dinners.

The cafeteria is open Monday to Friday at the following times

* The executive dining room is open for dinner with special arrangement. Otherwise snacks and light meals are served in the Zebu Club from 1700 to 2130. Pizza menu is available from 1100–1900.

Welcome to the ILRI hostels in Addis Ababa. We provide a welcoming, comfortable and friendly environment for you to enjoy. We provide excellent services right from check-in to check-out . We are your home away from home.

We offer 51 standard and executive rooms each with satellite television, telephone and free internet in a quiet and peaceful environment. ILRI hostels are within easy reach of the airport, shopping malls and entertainment areas of Addis. In the area around the campus, you will find several small supermarkets and shops just outside the campus entrance.

The housing office is open Monday to Friday from 0815–1700. It is closed on weekends and public holidays.

available on request. We provide a laundry service Monday to Saturday. Our executive rooms have a separate living room and bedroom. The living room provides extra space for work, relaxation and meeting guests.

Check-in/check-out Check-in at 1300 or later, and check-out before 1100. Late check-out can be arranged at the housing office.

Water Bottled water in your room is safe to drink. Tap water is adequate for personal hygiene needs. In cases of any interruptions in supply, you will be provided a water bucket in your bathroom. While the campus has its own borehole, please conserve water as it is scarce, especially in the dry seasons.

Electricity supply Electricity in Ethiopia is supplied in 220 volts, 50 cycles. Contact the housing office for a plug adapter if your plug does not fit in the outlet. If your item is 110 volts, you will need a power converter to use it. The campus has a stand by generator in case of power interruptions.

Laundry ILRI provides a laundry service (no dry-cleaning) and can do a moderate amount of washing for you. Please complete the form provided in your room and place clothing in the plastic bag provided. Laundry bags are collected in the morning (except Sunday) and laundry will be returned within 48 hours. Please do not submit items for laundering less than two days before your departure.

Room service Rooms are cleaned every morning by ILRI housing staff.

Room key Please keep your room keys with you at all times. Should you lose your key or leave it inside the Hostel room, please contact the Housing office or if after office hours, the Security Office on Tel +251 116 17 2007 or the Zebu Club staff.

Personal items Personal belongings and valuable items can be kept in the room safe, which can also accommodate a laptop.

Repairs and maintenance For repairs and maintenance jobs in your room, please fill in the maintenance slip provided in your room and leave it at the Housing Office. For jobs required urgent attention, contact the Housing Office (during office hours) or the Security Office (after office hours).

Room charges Room charges should be paid to the Housing Assistant in the Housing Office between 0830 and 1700 on weekdays. Bills

must be paid in US dollars (USD), Euros or Sterling pounds. Credit cards are accepted but personal cheques are not. Ethiopia Birr is only allowed for small charges like laundry.

Currency The local currency is the Birr (ETB), available in notes of 1, 5, 10, 50 and 100. All foreign exchange transactions must be made at a bank or large hotels and receipts must be obtained and retained. Nib International bank on campus provides foreign exchanges services. You are not allowed to leave the country with more than ETB 200 in local currency. ATMs through the city generally accept visa cards and only dispense in ETB. All payments for services on the campus must be made in ETB or USD, Euro, Sterling, or traveller’s cheques. Credit cards are also accepted.

Conferencing The campus has several conference and meeting rooms suitable for small and large meetings up to 100 people (larger events can be accommodated with tents). The five conference rooms have smartboards, simultaneous translation (Lalibela only), wireless internet, teleconference and other facilities and can be set up for different needs. Additional accommodation can be organized at reduced rates in nearby hotels.

outside the campus gates. There is Nib International Bank in the Tilli building on campus open from Monday through Friday from 0800 to 1630 and Saturday from 0800 to 1200. The bank also works during lunch hours.

Environmentally friendly service ILRI aims to be a responsible tenant of the environment. There is a recycling program and an effort to conserve water, look after the green spaces, and care for wild animals and plants on the campus. ILRI minimizes the use of plastic bottles (water is available in large recyclable containers).

Forget something? If you need personal items, please don’t hesitate to ask the housing office for assistance. Some items are available for sale at the Zebu Club or can be purchased in the supermarket right outside of the campus.

Internet The Guest Wifi network is open for all visitors and is available throughout the campus. No password is required. For any assistance please call to +251 116 17 2090.

Zebu Club ILRI Zebu Club (+251 116 17 2094) located across from the cafeteria, is open to all hostel residents during their stay (anyone staying for more than three months should pay a membership fee; contact the Housing and Catering Office for details). The club includes a restaurant, bar, solar-heated swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, pool and table football, a gymnasium and a children’s play area. Coaching in swimming, tennis and squash is available at a fee.

The campus also has a basketball court and a football/soccer field as well as a 2.8 km walking/running path around the perimeter.

Snacks and light meals are available from 1700–2130, seven days a week. Buffet lunches are served on Sunday from 1300 to 1400. The bar also provides soft drinks, coffee or tea and alcoholic beverages.

Phone, fax, copying Contact the housing office for your fax, copy and postal needs. Contact the housing front office for a pin code to make international calls.

Security Should any security issue arise, please notify the Housing office (+251 116 17 2090). In case of an emergency after office hours, please contact the security guards patrolling the compound (+251 116 17 2008) or Zebu Club staff (+251 116 17 2094).

Transportation The housing office can assist you with your transportation needs. A transport company on campus provides drivers and vehicles at a charge (+251 116 17 2380 during office hours). If you require a taxi, please call +251 116 17 2090/+251 116 17 2000/+251 116 17 2006 to put in a request. To get back to ILRI in a taxi, ask for ILRI located at Gurd Sholla area near the Holy City Centre.
