They are also familiar with the learning habits considered to be essential for developing the characteristics of a successful learner who will be able to cope whatever the challenge and the setting. In order to keep the learn- ing habits readily available during lessons every class has a display which highlights the key attributes of each habit. We hope that those of you who come to school on Open Morning will enjoy looking for the hand prints, watering cans, robots and detectives on display, and learn more about this important aspect of the Stephen Perse Curriculum. At the heart of P4C is the aim to build communities of enquiry where participants develop creative, critical, caring and collaborative thinking skills. This year we have developed an approach to teaching and learning which encompasses these skills and an additional two: curious and reflective. In order to make this as accessi- ble as possible to the children we introduced the concept through an assembly as the ‘six bees’ - be curious, be creative, be critical, be collaborative, be caring, be reflective thinkers. Do look out for examples of these when you are next in school or, better still, ask a Junior School pupil or teacher how the six bees impact on learning. Last Monday collaboration and creativity were very much to the fore during the annual house art event. Draw- ing inspiration from last term’s amazing whole school project on Harry Potter and European Day of Languages on 26 September, each house had to create a shield with a motto. Under the direction of the recently appointed house and games captains, the members set to work designing and making their shield, and composing a motto - first in English before translating it into a modern language which had a link with the house in some way. Most houses discovered several members are fluent in different languages and so discussion and co-operation were essential before the final choice for the motto could be made. The mottos now adorning the shields in- clude Italian, French, Russian, Greek and Modern Hebrew, and we are grateful to the parents who assisted with this part of the task. Head of Junior School - introductionAs summer has gradually given way to autumn, Junior School pupils have made the most of the fine weather during lessons and activities out of doors. Everyone enjoyed a very special outing to Latham Road on Tuesday morning for the Foundation photograph; this was quite an experience, particularly for those who have not been involved in such a large gathering before, but the huge operation went really well and we are all looking forward to seeing the result in a few weeks’ time.

Year 6 pupils made the first of a series of visits to the Nature Reserve last week; these are reported in more detail here: autumn visit to the Nature Reserve.

Hockey and netball lessons, practices and training ses-sions continue to account for the majority of pupil time out of doors during school hours. There have been a number of fixtures during the last fortnight and we of-fer particular congratulations to the hockey players who met with success in Bedford last Saturday and to the Aquathlon team which competed at Bottisham on 29 September. Read more about our sporting successes on the News pages by clicking on these three stories:

Although we haven’t yet marked harvest in school and half term is still two weeks’ off, Years 2 and 3 have been thinking about Christmas! These pupils recently submitted designs for the 2013 Christmas Pudding which is being organised by the PFA. We were delighted to receive so many festive and colourful entries; after much deliberation the design by Ilaria Shaw, 2C, has been selected to decorate the pudding lids. Ilaria has received a book token, as have the two runners up who are Haruka Nagano, 2M, and Sirsiha Gorantla, 3Alpha. Please find below the order form for the puddings.

We very much look forward to seeing many of you at Open Morning tomorrow between 09:30 and 12:00.

With kind regards,

Miss Katie MilneHead of Junior School

Christmas Puddings - Plum & ChocolatePlum Pudding (available in two sizes)This Christmas take a break from cooking and try the award winning Ultimate Plum Pudding. An exceptionally light and delicious Christmas pudding made by a small (but fully accredited) Cumbrian company which has been making puddings for over 20 years. All the vine fruits are soaked in lots of brandy and dry sherry. Fresh breadcrumbs and freshly grated carrot help give the pudding a lighter texture. Ingredients are top quality and much more varied than usual – almonds, walnuts, stem ginger, apricots, cherries - as well as the best raisins and sultanas. (Contains nuts but suitable for vegetarians).

Chocolate PuddingAlternatively, try the Triple Chocolate Pudding. Not just cocoa - proper chocolate! It’s made with melted dark Belgian chocolate, fine French cocoa powder, chocolate chips, chocolate liqueur and a good slosh of brandy.

The puddings will be labelled with The Stephen Perse Foundation competition winning design, making it an ideal gift for friends and relatives and prices are comparable with the very best puddings available in the shops. We are ordering direct from the manufacturer which allows enough profit to go to the school and an offer of a very reasonable price to you.

All proceeds and profits raised from the sales of puddings will be specifically allocated to The Stephen Perse Foundation Libraries and the Sports Grounds at Latham Road.

To order, please complete the form below and return it asap with your cheque made payable to The Stephen Perse Foundation PFA , in an envelope marked ‘PFA – Christmas Puddings’.

Please either deliver or post the envelope to your child’s school reception, e.g. Pre Prep, Junior, Senior or 6th Form.
