PRAIRIE STYLE
The "Prairie School" is so
named because Wright, the
school's pioneer architect,
worked with his clients to
develop architectural spaces
that were inspired by the
natural plant forms of the tall
grass prairie that surroundedKankakee.

The 2,700 ft²
(250.84 m²) house
was designed as a
two-story single
family residence
with a
basement.] When
the house was
constructed it was
a "country home"

of Lake Michigan
from its rear (east)
facade.

Kitchen (sympathetically updated)
As typical for Wright, the kitchen is rather small.
![Page 18: Houses by F.L. Wright](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022042701/55a89ebb1a28ab8a188b48c1/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Originally, on the second floor there were three bedrooms and a maid's quarters,
which has now been turned into a sitting room and additional bathroom. All of the
bedrooms have windows on three sides, and access to the outside.
![Page 19: Houses by F.L. Wright](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022042701/55a89ebb1a28ab8a188b48c1/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
In all, it seems subsequent owners were rather kind to the house. All the original built-in
furniture was gone, however. There were plan and clues within the house, so everything has
been reproduced.
