At the Lorne Community House we have - computer, internet, WiFi, phone, copying, scanning, printing – colour and B&W, referrals and assistance with making connections to service providers, friendly staff available to help you, tea & coffee, comfortable working or resting environment, indoor & outdoor meeting spaces, relaxing ‘Daisy & Olive’ edible garden. There is NO COST and we are open Monday – Thursday 9.30am – 2.30pm (or other times by arrangement). Christmas in July - Save the Date - Sunday 24 July A fun afternoon of family entertainment for our entire community to join together for a late Christmas lunch. Toy LibraryBecome a member of the toy library and enjoy access to over 100 new toys! Just like a book library, members can borrow quality items, return and borrow more.

Catering for children 5 months - 5 yrs and membership will be open to the whole community - including parents, grandparents and carers.

When: 1st Saturday and 2nd & 4th Thursday of each month.Time: 10-10.30am

Creative Art Open Studio with Caz Rieniets

Join with like-minded friends for two hours of dedicated time to explore your creativity!• Are you a creative person or do you

wish you could be ‘more creative’?• Do you need some “ME” time or want to

connect with others more?• Do you feel creatively ‘blocked’ or feel

your art is ‘never good enough’?

An ‘Open Studio’ is an opportunity to explore your inner creativity with other people, whilst working alongside Caz, an Art Therapist. Together we create an atmosphere that fosters confidence to freely express what is within! Exchange conversation, encouragement and support in a nurturing, non-judgmental environment, and learn some techniques for creatively expressing… you don’t have to be an ‘artist’ to make art!

When: FORTNIGHTLY Tuesdays – April 19, May 3, 17 & 31, June 14 Time: 10am - 12pm OR

When: FORTNIGHTLY Wednesdays – April 20, May 4 & 18, June 1 & 15. Time: 2pm-4pm

Cost: $170 total, payable on first session. *Materials provided (except for individually chosen items, i.e. canvases, speciality paints etc) *Early bird rate of $150 if paid by April 15.

*NB. This is not a closed group, new participants are welcome to join us at any stage throughout the term.

Pilates with personal fitness trainer Lina

Catering for males and females of all fitness levels, Lina will guide you through the basic principles and correct techniques of Pilates exercises. Lorne Vocal Group

The Lorne Vocal Group will be on a Tuesday at 5.30pm to 6.30pm.This is an open community singing group that sing a range of music. We will be seeking new performance opportunities this year. Its designed to be fun and we are looking for people of all abilities. The new children’s Performing Arts Group will be on a Wednesday from 4pm to 5pm. We will be aiming to perform a musical by July. Ages 5-14.

All abilities more than welcome!

Gardeners’ Morning

Calling all backyard gardeners. Are you a green thumb, or would you like to be? Are you interested in WORMS to help your compost?

Join us in the Daisy and Olive Garden between the Community House and Senior Citizens to plant, weed and share some garden knowledge as you dig in the ground. When: Tuesday @11amCost: Free

8 Week Stress Management Course with Nathan

Stress is something everybody has experienced. It manifests in many different shapes and forms. We can experience physical stress, mental and emotional stress and often they all happen at once!!!

Stress starts in the mind and then affects the entire body, our decision making, our relationships and the way we see things. It is nothing more than an overload of thoughts, feelings and emotions that are governed by our opinions, beliefs, expectations and ideas.

Join Nathan for a stress management course and learn techniques to relax, meditate and manage your emotions. We will cover relaxation, visualization and happiness management, and you don’t have to levitate to be able to meditate!

Playgroup

Come along and meet our new Playgroup Corrdinator. Our morning playgroup is where you can share the joys and challenges of par-enthood, while your children emgage in play and creative activities. All parents, carers, grandparents and their kids are welcome.

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Two day YOUTH Mental Health First Aid Course at the Lorne Community House. The course & certificate are being offered at NO COST to Hospital Staff and Community Members who have an interest in supporting young people. Learn to identify a young person who is developing a mental health problem or is in a mental health crisis.

6 week Mindfulness Course with HetAre you feeling anxious, tired & lethergic, overwhelmed or experiencing foggy thinking or anger?

Join Het in a safe and trusting environment to gently explore different techniques to help you manage stress and relax. We will cover topics around awareness of the breath, stretching, guided meditation, mindfulness, using sound for healing to assit in improving feelings of wellbeing.

Are you thinking of buying an iPad or already own one and would like to learn how to use it? The Surf Coast Shire is partnering with the Lorne Community House and Lorne Community Hospital to deliver a six week course for accessing health information online for beginners.

Week 1: Learn how to access emails and skype.Week 2: Learn how to access websites.Week 3: Learn how to access the library and its resources online.Week 4: Learn how to access CentrelinkWeek 5: Learn how to access My Aged Care.Week 6: Questions and Summary.

Please note: These classes are only available to age 65+ and transport can be arranged.

Building Resilience in Children 0-12 yrs with Gary Banks

When: Wednesday 18 May 7pm

All parents can learn how to help their kids cope better with adversity, change or trauma. Join psychologist Gary Banks for an informative, practical and candid discussion of how to build resilience in our children. Use these skills now or learn them now for when you need.

Gary has presented a number of parenting courses in Lorne and is well regarded for his knowledge and straight forward presentations.
