OTHER SUPPLIES YOU MAY WANT TO HAVE ON HAND ARE:

» FLIP-CHART PAPER AND MARKERS: It can be helpful to write up the agenda on ip-chart paper and place iton the wall where attendees can follow along. It’s also helpful to have a space to write up ideas.

» PENS AND PENCILS: Have writing utensils handy for any attendees who want to take notes.

» NAME TAGS: You’ll want to be able to remember who folks are throughout the meeting.

» DIGITAL CAMERA: If possible, make sure you or one of your guests has a camera to take pictures of your housemeeting.

4 PREPARE TO PLAN FOR NEXT STEPS

On June 5th, OFA volunteers across the country will be talking to 2008 rst-time voters as part of our votercontact kick-off. You and your guests have the opportunity to be leaders in this national effort. As a group, decide which type of events will be most effective and most feasible in your community:

» COMMIT CANVASS: During a Commit Canvass, your group would stand in a high-trafc location withCommitment Cards, asking people to commit to vote in 2010. This type of event works best in a space wherea lot of people walk. You will also want to think about where you are most likely to nd 2008 rst-time voters. You can download commitment cards at: my.BarackObama.com/CommitCard

» VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE: During a Voter Registration Drive, your group would set up in a high-trafclocation with voter registration cards, asking people to register to vote. This type of event works best in aspace where a lot of people walk. You will also want to think about places where you are most likely to ndpeople who need to register to vote, such as a college campus. You can nd out how to run a voter registrationdrive by going to your local voter registrars ofce. Once you have learned how to properly register voters inyour state, this is a great type of event to organize.

» PHONE BANK: At a phone bank, volunteers will come together to make calls to rst-time voters, asking themto commit to vote. A phone bank works best in areas where homes are spread out and it is difcult to walkfrom house to house. This requires that the host prints out a list of rst-time voters from either Neighbor toNeighbor, our online call tool, or works with state staff to access VoteBuilder. You can access Neighbor toNeighbor online at my.BarackObama.com/N2N .

» CANVASS: At a canvass, volunteers will walk door to door to talk to rst-time voters, asking them to commit tovote. A canvass works best in a neighborhood where houses are close together and there is a high density ofrst-time voters. If you are planning on hosting a canvass, you should make sure to connect with OFA staff inyour state to make sure you are talking to the right people.

As the host, spend some time before the event preparing for how to plan your next steps. You should make surethat you are familiar with the planning sheet, have talked to OFA staff in your state or joined the host conferencecall to gure out what else is happening in your state, and have some initial ideas about what events your groupcould plan coming into your house meeting.

5 TALK WITH ORGANIZING FOR AMERICA STAFF

Your best staff contact is the OFA staff in your state. They will likely reach out to you prior to your event. If you wantto reach out to them, you can email them at the ofcial OFA email address (ofa[statename]@dnc.org) . In addition

to reading through these materials and talking to OFA state staff, we will hold a host conference call on Wednesday,May 12th at 8:30 p.m. EST. You can register for the call at: my.BarackObama.com/HouseMeetingCall

This call will be a chance to talk with national staff and with other hosts about how to make your meeting as successful aspossible. You will have a chance to ask any questions you have and brainstorm about how to plan for your June 5th event.

DURING

The House Meeting Agenda is your guide to running a successful house meeting. You’ll want to follow it closely. If youhave any questions about what is on the agenda, please contact an OFA staff member in your state.

1 SIGN IN

When guests arrive please ask them to sign in, put on a name tag, and then gather together in whatever room

you choose. Give people about 10 minutes from the time you asked them to arrive to sign in and get settled.

2 INTRODUCTIONS AND AGENDA OVERVIEW (10 MIN)

» As the host, you should introduce yourself and thank your guests for coming.

» Ask your guests to introduce themselves. A good way to do this is to ask each person to say their name, wherethey live, and why they decided to come today.

» Read through the agenda aloud with them so attendees know what to expect and how long the meeting will run. Itis important that things run according to schedule so no one has to leave in the middle of the meeting.

3 SHOW OFA 2010 STRATEGY SESSION VIDEO WITH DAVID PLOUFFE AND MITCH STEWART (45 MIN)

» Explain that this strategy session was available online and that questions came from supporters around the country.

» Make sure everyone has a copy of the slideshow to look through during the strategy session.

» You can download the video in a format you can show in your home at: my.BarackObama.com/ HouseMeetingHost
