Redesign of Exhibition Models

B2B exhibition models are witnessing a drastic shift of expectations, and consumers are leaning toward new connections, knowledge sharing, and access to expertise. This change in behavior is ideally targeted because of the proliferation of digital media that allows end-users to access all information with a click of a button. Exhibitions

are changing their models to focus more on content than branding by offering new data and innovation. Show floors are gaining popularity in the market for breakout sessions, workshops, and keynotes, and provide subject matter expertise in ways that increase interaction levels.

Three Leading Drivers and Trends of the Global Exhibitions Market

Sustained Popularity in Elusive Industry SectorsThe use of conventional marketing methods such as e-mail marketing, newsletters, online advertise-ments, and media campaigns is unresponsive to highly specialized sectors such as manufacturing

and mining. Such niche industries use exhibitions in the form of expert panels, trade associations, and research to make decisions about their products and services. Exhibitions for their specific industries provide a high level of thought leadership, enable interpersonal marketing, get the right exposure, and aid to laser-target these hard-to-reach professionals in niche, specialist focus sectors.

Integration of Trade Shows and Digital TechnologiesExhibitions organized by various service providers are highly sophisti-cated, digitally advanced channels of marketing that enable increased communication and conversions for business owners. Exhibition orga-nizers are augmenting value to business via online, social, technological,

and mobile solutions. The launch of multi-sensory storytelling, increase in moneti-zation potential, implementation of tools to monitor customer behavior, and the provision of comprehensive brand information will result in an emotional brand expe-rience for end-users. The integration of technology such as AR, VR, wearables, interactive walls, digital lounges, and gamification will revolutionize the global exhibitions market.

3 Travel Trends› AI — Google’s vice president of engineering for travel and shopping, Oliver Heckmann, said that nearly 60 percent of consumers believe that their travel experience should deploy the use of AI and base their search results on past behaviors and/or personal preferences. Goggle’s data shows that more than one-third of consumers are willing to pay more for these personalized services.

Rashesh Jethi, senior vice president of engi-neering for Americas and head of innovation for airlines at Amadeus IT Group said AI “is a broad umbrella that frankly stands for everything we haven’t been able to figure out yet.”

› Mobile Search Growth — Twenty-six percent of travel searches in the U.S. in the fourth quarter of 2017 occurred on a mobile device; 47 percent in Europe; 40 percent in Asia; 38 percent in the Middle East and Africa; and 34 percent in Latin America.

Travel-related searches for “tonight” and “today” have grown more than 150 percent on mobile over the past two years.

› Bleisure Continues to Be a Thing — New research shows that more than 60 percent of business trips in the past year included a leisure portion. About 80 percent of bleisure travelers spend one to five hours on research during both the inspiration and planning phases — a more condensed amount of time compared to typical leisure booking windows.

Changes in Airline Industry Over Next 20 YearsA report by IATA and the School of International Futures identified a few drivers of change that have a higher potential for impact and uncertainty:

› Strength and volatility of the global economy — economic shifts to developing nations will alter patterns of trade and traffic.

› Alternative fuels and energy sources — a global focus on the environment is driving the need for alternatives to traditional fuels.

› Tensions between data privacy and surveillance — will people be willing to trust the airline industry with their data?

› New modes of consumption — consumers will want more use of technology for personalized experiences.

› Extreme weather events — expected increase of events could disrupt operations and damage infrastructure.
