Call for Busy Bee Day @ The Farm

Content:

Maybe not all members know that we are lucky to have access to a farm (205 Wairoa Road) where we have two kilns for wood firing to our use. We also do Raku-firings there.

We haven´t used the kilns for a while but we are planning to do a club firing – probably when it is not so hot.

Before this we have to do a good tidy up.......

We are calling out to all our members to help with the cleaning. The day is set for the 2nd of March. Love to see you all!

Please contact Lynne (0276971445) or Anett (0212468996).

The BPC kilns were used to fire these beautiful poppies for the Omanu Primary School. The poppies were created by children in their last year at the school & were placed in the school Memorial Garden.

BobOwensWorkshopsOn the first Monday morning of each month a group of four Bethlehem Pottery Club volunteers visit the Bob Owens Village! There are a group of 8 to 12 lovely residents who come to make pottery items with us. Their abilities are limited so we usually roll out the clay, and using stencils, cut out shapes. Textures, stamps or sprigs give character to their work.We have made butterflies, fish, birds, flowers, baskets, leaf dishes, Xmas-decorations & even jockeys on horseback. It is a challenge to think of something new within their capabilities as some of them have been with us for four years now.I bring the pieces home, make sure there are no sharp cutting edges and holes for hanging are adequate. Then I bisque them ready for the following month when the residents paint their work. They thoroughly enjoy this activity and are always delighted with the results. If you would like to be a volunteer your help would be most appreciated. Just give me a call - 07 5434 094 Dorothy Armstrong

These items haven´t been picked up after the exhibition & sale during the Garden & Art festival. Please take the items home. The benches have to be cleared.Thank you Anett Pilz

We are going to inform you when we have a date set.

Part of the BPC Committees goals this year was to develop a relationship with Avalon. BPC is mindful of our responsibility to give back to our community as a Non Profit organisation. The club had in previous years supported the Arohanui Trust through our Bayclay Exhibition. We offered Avalon a workshop of four Friday mornings. Five students, along with two support staff attended. Suzanne planned & lead the workshop with myself as support. The students made platters, coffee cups, xmas decorations, wall hangings & beaded jandals. The completed work was

fantastic. All students were thrilled with their pieces with most being made for Xmas presents.Feedback from Service Manager Julie Saunders -an artist herself, was extremely positive. In the community it is not easy to access art for the students. Working in clay is a great medium for all to achieve & enjoy. Avalon would like to continue to have the opportunity to work with the club again. Members who would like to be involved in helping with these workshops can contact myself, or a committee member. Lynda Powell Visit:

Maureen Ball, the judge of Bayclay 2018, has invited us up to her studio early in March. The date will be confirmed nearer the time. Information will be on the notice board or in the newsletter.
