COLLABORATIVE ARCHITECTURE is an international design practice, based in Mumbai , having design centres in Beijing and Calicut. The studio is credited with designing some of the most innovative projects located in India and is currently collaborating with the renowned Berlin-based practice JH Mayer, headed by Jürgen Mayer. The firm has won 33 awards since its inception in 2002, 11 out of them being highly coveted international recognitions. COLLABORATIVE’s projects have been extensively published in national and international print and web media.

Mujib Ahmed & Lalita TharaniLalita Tharani and Mujib Ahmed are driven by innovation and ceaseless pursuit of quality in design to create projects, which are highly sensitive, poetic, and contemporary within the budget limit. Every project is an exploration, going beyond the functional brief, creating a symbiosis of people, places, culture, climate, economy and collaborative efforts of related disciplines. “Architecture is one of the most demanding professions to be in. Drudgery for most part, incompetent in most cases, resistant to change, and to a large extent Patron dependent for its final outcome,” says Ahmed, “These are not the precondition for a perfect profession.” To which Tharani adds, “But architects do not have to take LSD or do vipassana to achieve nirvana. We achieve the highs and the tranquility through a great project and a highly satisfied client. And that is the best part of the profession.”

They are great admirers of all their contemporaries who push the envelope of innovation and test their design limits. Some people from their long list are Zumtor, Scarpa, Siza, Unstudio, Steven Holl, Jurgen Mayer, etc. “We love to work with light, white, ambivalence, associative connotations, fragments and

disruptive techs,” they smile.
