You’ll need your compass for this section.Did you discover anything last week with the work you did on the circle?First let’s revise the parts of a circle

Diameter = distance across the circle passing through the centreRadius = distance from centre to outside (circumference)Circumference = distance around the outside of the circleIf you know the diameter, how would you find the radius? That’s right, the radius is half the diameter so divide by 2.If you know the radius, how would you find the diameter? Exactly, the diameter is twice the length of the diameter so multiply by 2.Try these questions (you can use a calculator, if you want)

Next, we’re going to look at drawing a circle. You will need your compass

Page 6: Hosting Ireland€¦ · Web view2020/04/06  · Joan Miro was a famous, Spanish Catalan artist. He did works in sculpture, painting, and worked as a ceramist. Born in the sea port

Take your compass and put in a pencil. Match the point of your pencil with the tip of the compass. As in the picture, to draw a circle with a 3cm radius, measure 3cm from your pencil to the compass and draw. Keep the compass steady, it might take a few goes. Have a go at numbers 1-4. Remember you use the radius when drawing a circle, so if you are given the diameter, you must divide by 2. Now, try 5-8Finding the circumference of a circleDid you discover anything last week with the work you did on the circle? You may have noticed that each time the circumference of your circle is approximately 3 times the diameter. Have you ever heard of Pi¿ ) This is the number, 3.14. When you multiply 3.14 x diameter you will get the circumference. Just like you discovered that the circumference is about 3 times the diameter, now you know more exactly it is 3.14 times the diameter. Circumference = 3.14 x diameterHave a go (use your calculator) Remember you need the diameter.

There is another worksheet on the circle further down, if you want more practice.English – Cloze procedure – Tectonic Plates-Earthquakes
