The Horse Agility RevolutionA Positive Manifesto

Page 2: Horse agility revolution

I’d like to ask you a question.

Do you ever feel like you don’t quite fit in with the “regular” horse culture?

Like the words and phrases most people use to describe various situations and behaviors just don’t seem right?

Like the amount of force used is often out of proportion?

Like you’ll get looked at strangely if you even bring up ideas that interest you like relationship and rapport?

Like there is a general lack of dignity for the horse and sanctity for the equine/human relationship?

Like you want something fundamentally different and more fulfilling that what most people seem to be getting?

Like there is a positivity and excitement that you experience every day with your horse that most people just don’t get?

Page 3: Horse agility revolution

Let me put your mind at ease.

Yes, you are different than most horse people out there.Yes, you are crazy, but just a little in the best possible way.

No, you are not alone.I’m just like you. So are a lot of other people. In fact, there is a whole network of people out there who share your ideas,

values, and ways of thinking about and relating to horses.

And we’re multiplying.

Before we go any further though, there’s something you should know...

Page 4: Horse agility revolution

We no longer need horses.

Page 5: Horse agility revolution

And because we no longer need horses

an amazing revolution is taking place.

Page 6: Horse agility revolution

Like numerous revolutions that have come before, this one is powered by hooves and hands working side by side.

Unlike those previous revolutions, this time around we stand beside the horse, considering them to be our friend and cocreator, rather than a tool for powering industry and waging war.

In point of fact, this time around that change in the way we consider the horse is the revolution.

You see, it’s true. We no longer need horses to pull our carts, to carry our messengers, to move our goods, to plow our fields, to carry us into battle, or do any of the other countless services they have rendered us over the six or so thousand years since they joined us on this journey of creating civilization.

Horses no longer have a functional purpose and therein lies both their greatest opportunity and largest challenge.

I’ve always preferred the bad news first, so here it is: without a definite purpose, horses have no future in our modern society.

And now for the good news: because we no longer need horses, we are free to want horses. Thus, a new definite purpose: instead of fulfilling an obligation to us, horses can achieve an aspiration with us.

In a word, this is a revolution of

aspirations

Page 7: Horse agility revolution

So the question now is: What can you create with horses that fulfills and enriches both species in ways that were never possible before?

Page 8: Horse agility revolution

Horse Agility

is one of the answers to that very important question and one of the driving forces in this new movement.

The revolution is ready for you.

Are you ready to rise up?

Page 9: Horse agility revolution

It’s important to realize that this is not a guns-and-guillotines revolution. It’s not even a protests-and-marches revolution. Instead, it’s a laughter-and-partnership revolution. It’s far more about creation than destruction. It’s a revolution of fun, joy, and delight. A revolution of passion, inspiration, and rapport. A revolution of connection, calm, and

curiosity. A revolution of growth and evolution.

A revolution of possibilities, opportunities, and dreams.

At a personal level, it’s a revolution about you, and how you can truly live the dream with horses that you’ve always held dear.

At a cultural level, is a revolution about how we can evolve with our companions now that technology has released them from work-a-day demands.

Page 10: Horse agility revolution

You see, horse agility isn’t just about hooves and obstacles courses. It’s not really about that at all. Those are just things that we do, not who we are or what we’re making together.

Horse Agility is really a way of thinking, a way of being with horses. It’s a way of creating a new and better future together, as partners.

Yes, we walk side by side with our horses through the obstacles in the arena.

More than that though, we walk side by side with them through the challenges for growing and changing and living and loving and smiling together.

As part of this revolution, you have the amazing privilege of walking this path and helping to define a magical new equestrian world, simply by choosing to truly and passionately live your dream with your horse.

Page 11: Horse agility revolution

First, because Agility is inclusive: any human, with any horse, in any condition can participate. Horses too unsound to be ridden, people too unsound to ride, mules, donkeys, ponies, drafts, mustangs, yearlings, pregnant mares, kids, moms, retirees, cowboys, jumpers, novices and masters: all are welcome.

Second, because Agility is foundational: no matter what else you want to do, from cutting to dressage, from hanging out in the pasture to rocking the trail, practicing Agility will make it more fun and easier for both you and your horse.

Third, because Agility is positive: yes, it could be (and I’m sure is) done wrong: with excessive force and lack of understanding. However, majoritively the community that is supporting and participating in Agility work is focused building positive attitudes, using positive methods, and communicating positively.

And finally, because Agility is progressive: while it does have historical roots that draw from many horsemanship traditions, Agility is one of the only disciplines actively building it’s own future rather than staying stuck in the past.

Agility isn’t the only activity powering this revolution, but it is an important part of

the integral whole.

Why?

Page 12: Horse agility revolution

So, what can Agility do for you and your horse?

Build a state of rock-solid, unshakable calm.

Foster a sense of exuberant curiosity.

Develop an incredibly deep connection.

Give an exciting new lease on life to a horse who can no longer be ridden.

Provide a delightful new outlet for an equestrian who can no longer ride.

Increase your performance in any other discipline.

Add tons of fun and variety to your play sessions.

Give you specific purpose via goals and challenges.

Make you part of the positive global revolutionary community.

Take you further along the path to truly experiencing your horsemanship dreams in real life.
