ICT as a Must for Competitiveness and Innovation

• ICT (Information & Communication Technologies) are a powerful driver for economic growth, innovation and increased productivity

• Job creation: In the EU, for every job becoming obsolete due to the advent of ICT, 2.6 new jobs have been created

• ICT plays a dual role in the Digital Economy:

– ICT as a sector, representing 5% of the total GDP and 20% of overall productivity growth in Europe

– ICT as an enabler, namely an horizontal enabler of development and growth for other sectors

Trentino – Statistics & Results (FP7) • Trentino: only 560.000 inhabitants but…. more than 2% of the GDP

is invested in R&D

EIT ICT Labs – Call for Activities (2015)

• EIT ICT Labs compiles its Business Plan and allocates EIT funding on an annual basis, relying on an internal competitive Call for Activities

• The priorities for each year are defined according to internal “work programmes” associated with well defined Innovation Areas (or Action Lines)

• Trento RISE is available to provide support for the preparation of proposals in response to the Call for Activities

• Forthcoming appointments/tentative deadlines:

- 18 March 2014: Launch of the Call for Activities

- 9-10 April 2014: EIT ICT Labs’ Partner Event (Berlin, Germany)

• Trento RISE will chair the EU Working Group on «ICT4SmartCities» (Marco Pistore, FBK) and co-chair the one on «Energy Efficiency and Buildings» (Andrea P. Bondi, Trento RISE)

• Opportunities for Trentino: a) Strategic positioning on Smart Cities at EU level, b) Key role in the EU Strategic Innovation Agenda on Smart Cities and Communities, c) Validating key technologies and solutions.
