The Project
EDI-Net assists in building your city's or region's
capacity to more effectively implement sustainable
energy policies. It is analyses metered energy and
water data from public buildings and building energy
management systems in order to reduce energy
consumption and to save money.

The case study (1) Supporting on site managers
Sprinkler system self-flushSprinkler systempartially shut off
• A faulty sprinkler system flushed its pipes too frequently.
• The building manager was able to switch off the sprinkler system partially stopping it from
wasting more water.
• The quick action after the EDI-Net alert by the energy manager
saved a lot of water.
• 7,600 m³ water was saved, summing up to about 30,000 EUR of
monetary savings.

The case study (2) Detecting slight
increases in electricity consumption
…
• The energy manager recognised the “Electricity” smiley face becoming “sadder” little by little.
• A deeper analysis revealed a slightly but continuously rising electricity consumption.
• The high temperatures in summer 2018 seem to be the reason: the mechanical ventilation system was
more and more turned to higher operating levels at night, so the cool air of the nights could cool down the
building.
• The problem could not be mitigated, but the
sensitivity of the technical personnel was
increased by passing on the information to
them.

The lessons learnt
• Good quality data is key
• Keep it simple
• Enable and empower building users
![Page 12: Horizon 2020 20/02/19 Professor Richard Bull Covenant of](https://reader031.vdocuments.us/reader031/viewer/2022020916/61ab55fa9074aa73e5795bee/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)

The benefits
Improved decision making around sustainable energy investment opportunities as a result of:
• The importance of timely identification of energy saving opportunities in their buildings
• The need for effective engagement of building users/managers to promote sustainable energy and positive energy behaviour.
• Clearer representation of energy budgets to financial managers to help motivate people to save energy and invest accordingly
• Energy managers sharing best practice on energy management
