Your Hope Tribute FundThank you so much for choosing to keep alive the memory of your loved one with a Christie Hope Tribute Fund.

A Hope Tribute Fund is a simple andeffective way for you, your family andfriends to demonstrate your continuing loveof someone special and, in their name, raisevital funds to support the work of The Christie. The tribute fund is owned byyou, which means it can be as flexible asyou want it to be – you grow it inwhichever way suits you best.

You might want to add to your tribute fundon days that were special to you or grow itslowly by setting up a monthly gift by directdebit. Or why not gather your friends andfamily together to celebrate the life of yourloved one by organising your ownfundraising events in their name?

The Christie’s Appeals Team will give you allthe support you need in your fundraisingactivities and keep you up to date on itsprogress.

Growing yourHope Tribute FundWe want you to get as much joy as possible fromyour Hope Tribute Fund and the best way ofachieving that is to put you firmly in charge.

Every decision regarding your tribute fund isyours to make – how you grow it, whenyou add to it, who you involve, how muchyou raise ... you choose. However youchoose to grow yours, our Appeals Teamwill give you all the support you need inmaking sure your fundraising efforts are asuccess.

Many of our supporters tell us they get ahuge amount of satisfaction from raisingmoney by organising their own fundraisingevents. Often, these events bring togetherfamily, friends and communities toremember someone special. Over the years we have made note of thebest fundraising ideas and added a few ofour own. Together, they make up the

fundraising toolkit that you will find in thispack. But if you would like to grow yourHope Tribute Fund through a quiet andmore private means, you’ll find Christie’sDirect Debit form in your pack too.

cancer. They aim to find out if atreatment is safe, has side-effects, and

works better than established treatments.

Growing yourHope Tribute Fund

Over the years, The Christie has built a veryspecial relationship with many, peopleacross the North West of England andbeyond – people with a connection to TheChristie because we cared for someone theyloved.

Last year, those people – our friends –raised over £13 million to help us fund vitalresearch and expand our patient careservices.

To make the task of fundraising a littleeasier for our supporters, The Christie hasproduced a range of How to guides.Offering a range of practical advice andfundraising ideas, the How to guides areavailable online in pdf format atwww.christies.org/fundraising

Around 2,400 patients a year will be treated at our new clinical trials unit - double the number we currently treat.

Just one example of how your tribute fundwill help to improve patient care services atThe Christie is our planned new PatientTreatment Centre.

When this project is completed the newcentre will be the largest Clinical Trials Unitin the world from where the latest cancertreatments will be pioneered, includingmany ‘first into man’ trials which willultimately benefit cancer patients in the UKand around the world.

Paying into your Hope Tribute FundTo make fundraising for your Hope Tribute Fund even easier, you can create yourvery own page at www.christies.org/hopefunds . Just follow our easy step-by-step guide to personalise your page with photographs and your own messagesof thanks to people giving to your tribute fund.

Sending chequesWhen sending cheques to The Christie foryour Hope Tribute Fund, please make thempayable to The Christie and remember towrite the name of your fund on the cheque(e.g. The John Smith Hope Tribute Fund forThe Christie).

If you do this, it will help us make sure themoney is paid into the correct fund.

Gift AidAnyone can make their donation taxeffective through Gift Aid providing theypay income tax or capital gains tax equal tothe amount The Christie will reclaim ontheir donation.

Gift Aid is so important to the work of TheChristie because it increases the value of thegift by almost a third at no extra cost toyou.

To reclaim Gift Aid on a donation from asponsor, they must tick the Gift Aid box andsupply their name and home address(including postcode). If any of these detailsare missing, we simply can’t claim the extramoney.

So please, if you are collecting sponsormoney, do gently remind those sponsoringyou of how much more their gift will beworth if they simply tick the Gift Aid boxand give their name and full home address.

As the named contact, The Christie willcorrespond with you alone about individualgifts to your Hope Tribute Fund.

If you’d like others to be able to correspondwith the Appeals Team about your tributefund, please write to us granting permissionand giving us the names of other contacts.

Every penny you raise in the name of yourloved one will be used to provide thehighest standards of care and research intotreatment of cancer. Regardless of howambitious you intend to be with your HopeTribute Fund or how you go about raising money for The Christie, we are grateful for your support.

To show our gratitude we have our veryown ‘Tree of Hope’, which is situated in aquiet garden at The Christie. The tree is tohonour those no longer with us by thankingtheir families and friends in a permanent and personal way for their incredible generosity and support.

Funds that have raised more than £15,000will have the name of their loved oneengraved on a leaf as a special thank you,and to give the family a place to come andremember them.
