Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, March is going to be a very busy month at Hope Lutheran. We start off with the youth’s dinner theatre production (see next page for details) and end the month with Holy Week and Easter (see schedule of services on front page). While I enjoy all the opportunities for worship during Holy Week that prepare us to have a more meaningful Easter experience, this year I want to make a special appeal for you to consider attending our Tenebrae Service (Service of Shadows) on Good Friday night (3/25) at 7:30 PM.

Over the years this particular service has become very important to me as perhaps the one service that prepares my heart and spirit to understand both sacrifice of Jesus upon the Cross and the unexpected news of the empty tomb on Easter. This service

focuses on the seven last words of Jesus from the Cross. The church continues to be darkened until at the end of the service the only visible candle is the Christ Candle that makes a brief appearance foreshadowing the promise of Easter and the Resurrection. My prayer is that our Lenten and Holy Week journey will be a blessing to you and your family that opens us to experience Easter in a more powerful and meaningful way. ________________________________________________________________

SUNDAY MARCH 13

ONE WORSHIP SERVICE AT 9AM FOLLOWED BY CONGREGATIONAL POTLUCK BREAKFAST FELLOWSHIP With so many folks taking advantage of Spring Break for MSU and schools, we thought it would be the perfect time to hold a single worship on Sunday, March 13 at 9AM. Following it we

invite everyone to stay for a true congregational potluck breakfast. You can bring, rolls, donuts, egg bakes, bacon, sausage, sausage gravy and biscuits, fruit, juices, etc. We will have the warming ovens on to store things that need to be kept warm. Should be a great time enjoy some great food and fellowship. Always remember these sort of experiences are a great way to introduce Hope Lutheran to friends or neighbors.

YOUTH DINNER THEATER MARCH 4TH AND 6TH On Friday, March 4th at 6:00 pm and Sunday, March 6th at 1:00 pm, our youth will entertain us with another hilarious comedy, “The Princess King”. They have been rehearsing since October and are ready for opening night. The play follows the plight of a princess who decides that her father should not be in charge of determining who she will marry after he has set a tournament to determine who the best suitor for his daughter will be. She disguises herself as a prince to compete in the tournament and all sorts of mistaken identity cases lead to many hilarious situations. Tickets are available in the church office and are $12 for adults and $5 for children. A table for 8-10 is $80. This also includes a meal. Special Thanks to Thrivent who underwrote this event with a generous $1,000 grant.

Grief Support Group-

Monday, April 4 Many of us have faced the pain of the loss of a loved

one in our lives…….. How do we cope with this overwhelming experience? Our culture offers a traditional formula, which unfortunately, is not always a very good one. It goes something like this: once the shock has somewhat worn off, hide away your tears, file your memories, and “get over it,” steel yourself with a “stiff upper lip” frame of mind and go on with your life as “normal” This approach can actually impede the healing process and lead to physical illness. Additionally, many of us believe in myths about grief which are just not helpful toward our won healing. We will explore these myths and the many facets of the grieving experience during a Grief Support Group which will begin Monday, April 4th from 6:30 -8 pm at Hope Lutheran Church. This series is free and will be based on the respected resource, Understanding Your Grief by Alan Wolfelt, director of the Center for Loss and Life. The first meeting will be informational in nature----we will explore grief issues and provide an outline of expectations for the following 7 group sessions. S.A.L.T UPDATE

Women’s Circles Deborah Circle Meets the second Wednesday of each month, September through May at 7:00 pm. They are studying the book, Bad Girls of the Bible. The book can be ordered from Amazon. If you are interested, contact Karen Cahill at 586-2163 or email tackcahill@gmail.com. Mary-Martha Circle Meets the third Wednesday of every month at 9:30 am at Bozeman Lodge, September through May. They use the ELCA publication, Gather, for their study.

Harp Hour- Each Tuesday at Noon Spend an hour relaxing, meditating or knitting while enjoying the harp and singing performed by Nancy Wilson, Karen Thielen, and Angela Espinoza. What a treat!!
