Welcome! A big hearty Welcome to our new families and a grateful Welcome Back to our Veteran
Families! The school day has developed into a joyful rhythm where learning is happening
in the classrooms, and laughter and music is heard throughout the building. Once again,
thank you for entrusting your children to our care. It is a privilege. Our teachers teach
because they feel called. They care deeply about your children.
This is the first monthly Newsletter of the school year. In it you will find useful infor-
mation about what is going on at school. By now you should have received contact infor-
mation for your child’s teachers. If you need to reach any teacher or staff member, the
best way to do so is through email. Teachers cannot answer the phone during the school
day as they are teaching, and staff members are often involved in activities away from
their desks, but we all check our email regularly throughout the day. Our email address-
es are the initial of our first name followed by our last name @beloveddccs.org. My name
is Lynn Schundler and by way of example, my email address is

Registration for 2018-19
Registration for next school year will open on October 15, 2017. If you scholar has a younger sibling
who will be entering Kindergarten next year, please do apply. The sibling will be admitted under our
sibling preference policy but you do have to apply BEFORE the lottery to obtain the preference. The
best and easiest way to apply is on line at belovedccs.org. All applicants (other than siblings) between
October 15th and January 15th will be in the lottery which will be held on January 17, 2018. If you
know of a family or friend who is looking to enroll a child in September, please let them know. Word of
mouth is our best advertisement, and we appreciate your endorsement! We will have grades K-8
next year.
Middle School Update
We had originally planned to break ground on BelovED’s new middle school this past spring, but
we were not able to get all of the architectural plans and pricing finalized until this month. If we
begin construction now, we will not be able to have the building ready for occupancy next Septem-
ber (2018), so we are going to delay our middle school groundbreaking until next Spring, and the
new building will come online in September 2019, instead of in September 2018.
That said, we do need additional space to be ready in September 2018, because BelovED will be
adding another grade level (eighth grade). So immediately after school ends in June 2018, we will
replace the 1-story trailers behind BelovED with 2-story permanent construction that will take
care of our School Year 2018-2019 needs and that will permanently give us more space at our cur-
rent facility: more classrooms, more bathrooms, more offices, and an additional gym/multi-purpose
room.
Here are drawings of BelovED’s finalized middle school plans.

Protocol or when you pick your child up before Regular Dismissal
If you are going to pick your child up from school BEFORE their regular dismissal
time, please email Mr. G. at [email protected] AND your child’s teacher.
Please do NOT call the office. Such calls clog up the office phone and the only thing
Ms. Smith would do with the information is to email the teacher, so please take Ms.
Smith out of the middle and communicate with your child’s teacher directly.

Lunch Applications
Thank you parents who have completed and returned lunch applications. We are almost there! Several
parents have expressed frustration over the need to complete these applications forms each year especial-
ly if they know they don’t qualify OR they intend to send lunch from home. So let me clarify. Each year
we have to determine lunch statuses even if there is no change from the prior year. We request the forms
for 3 distinct reasons:
If you child is taking the school lunch the staff needs to know what if anything to charge
All schools are required under State law to report the Free/Reduced lunch status of each child – no
exceptions
We receive supplemental funding for each child who qualifies for free and reduced lunch which helps
fund the costs of our programs.
If a parent knows that their child does not qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch, that parent doesn’t have to
complete the lunch application, but they do have to let us know by emailing Ms. Schundler at
[email protected]. A non-response will not be interpreted as “does not qualify.” The parent must
affirmatively confirm this.
Our insistence on collecting this information is not intended to harass; we are required to gather it.
Many parents reported that they have submitted the lunch application previously with the forms dis-
tributed over the summer. However, the lunch forms are NOT part of that packet. We only get them in
early September from the JCBOE. Of course we do misplace paperwork, and I apologize. Forms also end
up at the bottom of backpacks, in pockets and in books. If we ask you for the application, it means we do
not have it. It was either misplaced, never submitted or somewhere between home and school. So we
thank you for your cooperation each year in completing applications.
Soon the JCBOE will be enforcing the lunch statuses, and if they do not have an application, a child will
be deemed NOT qualified and will be charged for lunch EVEN IF THE CHILD DOES QUALIFY. If you
receive an email from us this week that we don’t have the application, that means JCBOE doesn’t have it
either. So please do return it.
