This partnership will focus on seven events around men’s and women’s basketball games. To reach out to DePaul alumni and friends working in downtown Chicago, DePaul head coaches Jerry Wainwright and Doug Bruno will join Director of Athletics Jean Lenti Ponsetto to host Downtown Blue Demon Lunches this season.The lunches will be designed to keep fans up-to-date on the current happenings in Blue Demon Basketball, as well as DePaul athletics.The events will be held in the beautiful Cliff Dwellers, featuring a stunning view of the city and Lake Michigan. Doors will open at 11:30 for lunch with a noon program. Admission will be $25.

“We-Are De-Paul!”The now legendary cheer of “WE ARE ...” of many of the nation’s top Catholic Universities, started at DePaul at a 1975 road game against Coach Dick Vitale and Detroit. A small contingent of Blue Demon fans shouted the phrase in unison for the first time. Soon after, Lorraine Ramsey mother of point guard Randy Ramsey made and distributed signs that would seal the cheer in DePaul lore forever!

THE POWER OF WE WEEKOct. 15 Free Throw MarathonAnnually DePaul Athletics has hosted the Free Throw or Golf Mara-thon to raise funds to benefit Blue Demon Community Service Efforts.

DePaul’s student-athletes perform thousands of hours of community service each year. None are more visible than the annual Youth Day at a women’s basketball game, where DePaul provides tickets, trans-portation and a t-shirt for a gym full of students from across Chicago.

Join the effort to raise money for community service events and build community. New for 2009 will be an attempt to break a world record for Knock-out!

BE A PART OF BUILDING DEPAUL ATHLETICS DePaul University is in the midst of three facility improvement projects: Cacciatore Stadium - Phase II, The Outdoor Track at Lane Stadium and the Short Game Facility for Golf at Ruffled Feathers. The three initiatives have greatly improved the train-ing and playing experience of our student-athletes. INSURE OPPORTUNITY FOR TOMORROW, TODAY DePaul Athletics fundraising efforts also focus on endowing scholarship and programming needs. Annually athletics spends nearly $5 million on scholarship expenses for its more than 200 student-athletes. By endowing scholarships, DePaul Athletics has the opportunity to enhance scholarships in some sports and redistribute available funding to maximize the depart-ment’s resources.A named scholar-ship requires a gift of $50,000. All gifts can be made in pledges over five years. Planned giving opportunities are also available.
