Our friend and fellow fisherman, Marv Van Voorst, passed away
July 22th. He has been an active member of the Senior Anglers
since 2004. He and his wife Joyce have been Wagon Masters and
they went to most RV trips. He often was in charge of the fishing
pools. I will especially miss fishing with Marv as he was one of the
few that liked to get out early to fish. Marv also was active in the lo-
cal Classic Car Club. It was quite a sight seeing all those classic
cars in the church parking lot, where the funeral occurred. Marv will
be missed.
We are pleased to have Mitchel Perdue as our speaker this month.
He will be talking about marine habitats and their environments.
Mitchel is the son of club members, Bob and Pat Perdue.
Our next outing is the annual trip to Mission Bay. It’s a family activity
with a bar-be-que winding it up. The date is Friday, August 12 from
1 – 5 pm. Contact Don Continelli for details. Anitra and I have gone
in the past and found it to be relaxing and enjoyable. We fish from
the beach using clams dug up at the location.
There’s also a salt water trip scheduled August 15th – 17
th.
The June Lake trip is fast approaching September 7th – 15
th. It’s our
“Signature trip” of the year. If you don’t have a Camper/RV, you can
rent one or even stay at a local motel. You would always be part of
the activities. See Bill and Karen Kirchnavy for details.
Has anyone been catfishing ?
Keep your feet dry and lines wet.

NOTED NAVY SENIOR BIOLOGIST TO EXPLORE THE MYSTERY OF LOCAL LAND AND SEA PROJECTS AT ANGLERS MEETING AUGUST 19
Residents in San Diego and North County are closely tied to the health and condition of the sea and its surrounding environ-ment. With this in mind, the Senior Anglers of Escondido invited Mr. Mitchel Perdue, Senior Biologist and Deputy Dive Safety Offi-cer for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest, San Diego to further explore and to extend remarks made during a popular presentation two years ago at the local organization. The meeting is scheduled for August 19. He plans to highlight some of the many important and far reaching projects being conducted lo-cally that the public may have low awareness. These include sev-eral extensive research projects involving green sea turtles in San Diego Bay, black abalone on San Clemente Island, and shoreline erosion. Mr. Perdue is a native of San Diego County and has spent the last 35 years diving and exploring the coastal waters off southern Cali-fornia and Baja. Over the past 25 years, he has managed the Navy's natural resources from Adak, Alaska to San Diego, CA and out to New Mexico. He is the Navy's senior biologist for numerous marine and terrestrial habitat biological issues ranging from fisher-ies and eelgrass issues in Puget Sound to green sea turtles in San Diego Bay to black abalone on San Clemente Island. He has been the Navy's lead for marine issue's including the establishment of the Navy's first Eelgrass Mitigation Bank and the construction of a nine-acre intertidal/subtidal island in San Diego Bay. Mitch Perdue is the son of Senior Angler members Bob and Pat Perdue and lives with his wife, Paige in Escondido with their 19 and 12 year old daughters, Cache and Callie. The Escondido Senior Anglers is open to the public and meets the third Friday of each month at the Joslyn Center, 210 Park Avenue in Escondido.
The program starts at 9:30 AM and feature programs of interest to both salt and fresh water anglers.

Our July meeting attendance award given by Escondido Country Club was awarded to Dotti Arnold. A group from our club ate at Co-cina del Charro after the meeting. This is a nice friendly way to get to know the members of the club while visiting over lunch. If you can be an August Greeter or Buddy pick up a badge and help me out. It would be helpful for Membership if you would check your DIRECTORY to see if your informa-tion is correctly typed. Also, check to see if you have the correct picture listed with your name. I have a camera at each meeting and could retake your picture for the DIRECTORY.

Turkey Fry
November 2,2011
The Senior Anglers Turkey Fry is scheduled for Wednesday November 2nd
at Dixon
Lake. Alice and Bob Lage will be organizing this event and will start taking sign-
ups at the August 19th
meeting. They will need a lot of help so think about what
you can bring. Needed will be mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing
and desserts. Will Cozzens will get the turkeys and will need help with the cook-
ing. Jim and Mary Roy will be in charge of the silent auction and will need your
items to be bid on. Also look to bid on the day of the Turkey Fry.
This is always a fun event so hope to see you there.

2012 BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Nominating Committee for our club is seeking volunteers that would be interested in serving on the 2012 Board of Directors. We will be having elections at the November General Meeting. Having served on the Board of Directors for several years in various capacities I can truthfully say that it has been very rewarding and enjoyable working with the leaders of the Senior Anglers of Escondido. Helping to determine the direction of our club and having the satisfaction of seeing different projects/activities implemented and usually succeed has been gratifying.
If you would like to get more involved and/or have questions about helping on this coming years Board of Directors please call one of the Nominating Committee Members. We would be more than happy to answer any questions you have regarding this subject.
Thanks for your consideration.
