EASTER BASKET CHEER - Brownie Troop 1217, underthe leadership ofBemie Todaro, Mary JaneFonte,and Nancy Bolles, prepared Easter baskets filled with craft supplies. The baskets will be donated to inner-citychildren in Niagara Falls. The girls participated in several fundraising activities in order to purchase all theneeded materials. Alzheimer's groupto meet atRiverwood

Riverwood Health Care Centerwill host a support group forfamily and Mends ofthose suffering,from Alzheimer's disease, Tuesday,April 25, at 7:30 p.m. Caregiverswill receive information, personalsupport, and up-to-date resourcesconcerning memory disorders andAlzheimer's disease, which nowaffects more than 40,000 people inWestern New York.

The public is invited to this firstmeeting of the support group, withfurther meeting datesexpected tobeannounced. For reservations orquestions, please call LeilaniPelletier, director ofsocial services,at 773-5900. Youth ambassador program

The Grand Island Chamber ofCommerce will sponsor the YouthAmbassador Program, aimed atpromoting interaction and goodwillbetween the business communityand students. The YouthAmbassador participates in varioustown and Chamber functions suchas the July 4th parade, BusinessExpo, Town Hall tree lighting andother festivities.

The program is open to studentsin grades eight to eleven.Applications include a section on

personal history and future goalsalong with an essay question. TheYouth Ambassador will receive a$1,000 cash prize and the runner-upwillreceive $250.

Applications will be availableMay 1 in the Chamber office at1980Whitehaven Rd., and will alsobe distributed in the schools.

Final judging will be held June3, in the Rotary Gazebo at TownHall, as part ofthe Island TreasuresFestival.

GRAND ISLAND STUDENTSCOMPETE IN DECACOMPETITION - The New YorkState DECA competition was heldin Rochester from March 8 to 10.Five Grand Island studentsparticipated in this event. Thesestudents were winners of dieregional competition this pastJanuary that was held for 550 areastudents at Grand Island HighSchool. Finishing in the top eight,students in the state for jobinterview was Danielle Ahrens; forintroduction to occupations, JamesBlocho; and for visual advertising,Alexis Machelor. Finishing first inthe state for job interview wasTiffany Gainer. Receivinghonorable mention for publicspeaking was Anna Quider. DECAis an association of marketingstudents with a total membership of180,000 across the U.S. thatfocuses primarily on career andprofessional development, civilservice and leadership skills.
