3 Release Overview
3.1 UPS Licensing Overview
ATTENTION
ATTENTION
License counts are enforced for all license levels – including UPS
“Standard”. In releases prior to R321, only UPS Advanced and Developer
license types are enforced.
To use UPS R323.1, you will need to install a new license for your license
server. Refer to the UPS Installation Guide for more information.
Uniformance Process Studio requires every user to have a license, and includes a license
manager to allow licenses to be shared between users. A single license will be shared
between multiple programs run on the same user desktop session (see section
Consolidated Licensing).
UPS R323.1 uses a four-tier license structure. The license levels are Standard, Advanced,
Developer, and Web Client. The features provided in each license level are summarized in
Table 1- License Levels and Features.
Excel Companion R323.1 uses a single license Intuition.Insight.ExcelCompanion.

By default, UPS operates at the Standard License Level. If an Advanced or Developer
license is available and has been configured, the you can elevate the license level at
startup through a shortcut or change it while the application running.
A Web Client license will be used if a UPS graphic is opened directly in Internet Explorer
rather than through the UPS Application.

HARDWARE AND OPERATING SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
ups323-1-0scn 14
6 Hardware and Operating System Requirements
6.1 Hardware requirements
Recommended minimum configuration (all operating systems)
Processor: 2.4 GHz or faster 64 bit
Memory: 8GB RAM
Improved performance may be achieved on systems with better configurations.
6.2 Network requirements
100 Mbps network speed or better is recommended.
6.3 Microsoft Windows Compatibility
The supported operating systems for Uniformance Process Studio and Uniformance Excel
Companion include the United States English language versions of the following:
Windows 10 – 32 bit
Windows 10 – 64 bit
Windows 8.1 – 32 bit or 64 bit
Windows 8 – 32 bit or 64 bit
Windows Server 2019 – 64 bit
Windows Server 2016 – 64 bit
Windows Server 2012 – 64 bit
Note: Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 are not supported.
Users need to ensure the minimum hardware requirements are provided as per the Operating System recommendations
Refer to section Localisation, Language and Locale Support for more information on support for non-US English Microsoft Office versions.
6.4 Microsoft Office Compatibility
Data can be exported from UPS to Excel with the R323.1 Excel Companion.
The supported Microsoft Office versions for this component include the North American
English 32 bit or 64 bit editions of the following:
Office 2019
Office 2016
Office 2013 with SP1
Office 2010 with SP2. Limited support*
* This version of Office will not be supported by Microsoft starting October 13, 2020. Honeywell support will end at that time
HARDWARE AND OPERATING SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
ups323-1-0scn 15
Note: Office 2007 is not supported by Excel Companion R323.1.
Note: Refer to section Support for non-US English Operating System and Office Editions
for more information.
6.5 Virtual Environments
UPS has not been tested in a Citrix environment, although there are no known
compatibility issues.
UPS can be used in VMWare server or Workstation virtual environments.
6.6 Internet Explorer Compatibility
UPS R323.1 has been qualified with Internet Explorer 11.
If HMIWeb displays need to be called directly in IE9 or later they must be modified to
ensure that the displays work correctly in these browser versions. These modifications are
required due to changes in recent version so Internet Explorer. A migration tool is provided
on the UPS installation media to make the necessary simple modifications to HMIWeb
display files.
Note: This procedure is not necessary for displays that will only be called up directly in UPS
(using Graphics/Web Browser dashboard element), rather than opening them in Internet
Explorer.
The bulk migration tool does the following:
1. Adds a META tag to the top of the page to ensure that it runs in the correct
document mode when opened directly in Internet Explorer.
2. Replaces the opacity property of page elements. They will then display with 100%
opacity.
To use the bulk migration tool:
From the UPS DVD, run:
\Utilities\HMIWeb Graphics IE Compatibility
Tool\BulkDisplayIECompatibilityUpdateTool.exe
Specify the path where the display and shape files to update are located (use the browse
button to find the location if required).
Click start to migrate displays in the nominated folder and subfolders.
COMBABILITY WITH OTHER HONEYWELL PRODUCTS
ups323-1-0scn 16
7 Combability with other Honeywell Products
Please consult the HPS Support Web Site or appropriate Honeywell sources (Product
Manager) or the latest information on other Honeywell applications (such as
Business.FLEX and Experion PKS for releases that are qualified with UPS R323.1).
7.1 Legacy Excel Companion Versions
The installation of legacy Excel Companion versions – from PHD Desktop or older versions
of UPS) is not recommended. The BF240 or BF241 Excel companion provides support for
LIMS and Event data and should be used instead to complement the UPS Excel
Companion.
7.2 Co-existence with Experion PKS
Uniformance Graphics uses the standard HMIWeb Station and Display Builder package
used by Experion products.
It should be compatible with other releases of this software, however formal qualification
testing has not been completed.
Product Releases with compatible versions of HMIWeb
Experion PKS Station
Experion PKS eServer Premium client
Experion PKS eServer standard access
HMIWeb 6.8.302.106
Workcenter (release numbers refer to Business FLEX
releases R320 and later1
1 Workcenter 230 (and later versions) and UPS R323.1 can be installed on the same client computer and will run independently. In addition, UPS R323.1 can call up Workcenter 230 (onwards) graphics within the UPS client as well as displaying UPS graphics. This is in addition to the normal use of Internet Explorer to display Workcenter graphics.
COMBABILITY WITH OTHER HONEYWELL PRODUCTS
ups323-1-0scn 17
TIP
TIP
It is possible to install UPS with older versions of these products provided
that you do not install the UPS HMIWeb components (i.e. the HMIWeb
Display Builder and Graphics runtime options). In most cases the UPS
installation package will detect an existing incompatible HMIWeb version
and deselect the UPS options automatically. Alternatively, this can be
done using the Custom installation option. See the UPS Installation
Guide for more information.
UPS R323.1 without the graphics runtime option installed can call up
Workcenter graphics but not UPS graphics.
UPS can be used to create or edit Workcenter displays. When creating a
new Workcenter display in UPS, you may see the message “Cannot
communicate with Uniformance Process Studio or the Workcenter
server”. This is expected behavior. To avoid this message, update the
Workcenter display template with the Workcenter server name.
Alternatively, you can ignore the message and update the Build time
server setting in the Data Sources property tab for the new display.
ATTENTION
ATTENTION
UPS R323.1 must be installed after Workcenter if the two products are
being installed on the same computer. To install a compatible version of
Workcenter on a UPS system, you must re-install UPS after installing
Workcenter
7.3 Experion Compatibility
UPS is not recommended for use on Experion Servers. UPS is not intended for mission
critical, on process environments. It should therefore not be used on Console Stations, or
Flex stations performing critical operator functions.
7.4 Experion Configuration Studio Compatibility
When launching HMIWeb Display Builder from Configuration Studio on a system that has
UPS installed, Display Builder will be configured as the last version launched. For example,
if you have just used UPS Display Builder and then launch Display Builder from
Configuration Studio then you will see the UPS Builder rather than Experion Display
Builder. To then launch the Experion Builder, use the Start menu shortcut.
7.5 Safeview Compatibility
UPS can be installed on a supported Experion PKS Station version running Safeview.
However, UPS cannot be managed by Safeview.
COMBABILITY WITH OTHER HONEYWELL PRODUCTS
ups323-1-0scn 18
7.6 GUS Compatibility
The prior release UPS R322.3 has been qualified with GUS R680 (TPS R421). UPS R323.1
has not been tested with GUS, although there are no known compatibility issues.
7.7 PHD Server Compatibility
UPS R323.1 has been tested with PHD R320, PHD R321PHD, PHD R340, PHD R400 as a
datasource.
PHD Server Release Minimum PHD Server patch level2
Notes
R400 Not critical for UPS Preferred PHD versions for use with
UPS.
R320/R321 Not critical for UPS
R310 310.1.1 Supports UPS Event Visualization
features.
R300 300.1.3 Does not support UPS Event
Visualization features
R215/ R210 or earlier Not applicable Not support
ATTENTION
ATTENTION
Uniformance Process Studio must not be installed directly on a PHD
Server machine version 215 or earlier. The UPS installation package will
attempt to detect and prevent this situation.
Uniformance Process Studio can be installed directly on PHD Server
R310 and R320/R321 machines.
7.8 PHD Client Compatibility
UPS is deployed with PHD Client components 400.1.1. Normally it is not necessary to
update PHD Client components on a UPS machine when a PHD Server patch is applied.
This includes when the server patch includes an update to PHD client components on the
server.
2 This column indicates the minimum patch level required or recommended. Recommended practice to maintain PHD server at latest available patch level.
COMBABILITY WITH OTHER HONEYWELL PRODUCTS
ups323-1-0scn 19
UPS is tested with new PHD Server and client patches before they are released. Any
compatibility issues or special considerations will be detailed in an online update to this
document and where relevant in the PHD patch release letter.
ATTENTION
ATTENTION
To ensure that event icons are correctly mapped when migrating from
PHD 300/310 to PHD322 you will need to:
Delete all existing Experion CEJ collectors and then recreate
them.
Run the CEJSetup program to properly reset the registry.
7.9 PHD Desktop Compatibility
Installation of the legacy PHD Desktop R215 package with UPS is not recommended.
Instead, a Visual PHD and Modtag package is available for UPS customers who need these
components of the PHD Desktop. See the note below for details.
ATTENTION
ATTENTION
Visual PHD components and Modtag are not distributed with UPS. They
are available in a separate installation package which can be downloaded
from HPS Support Online.
7.10 OPC HDA Server Compatibility
The previous release of the UPS OPC data source has been qualified for use against the
following OPC Historical Data Access (HDA) servers:
Product Version
Experion PKS R410, R430
PHD R300, R310, R320/ R321
OSI PI 3.4.364.70
Note: UPS does not support connections to OPC Data Access (DA) servers.
7.11 Tag Explorer Compatibility
From R320, UPS uses the UPS Tag Browser both in UPS and in Excel Companion. This
provides a common experience for deployment, usage, and configuration across both
applications.
Tag Explorer can be used with UPS R323.1 but users will need to manually create a
shortcut to the application to launch it. Tag Explorer is installed to:
COMBABILITY WITH OTHER HONEYWELL PRODUCTS
ups323-1-0scn 20
<Installation drive>\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Honeywell\Uniformance
Note: Due to tightening of Windows security policies, drag and drop from Tag Explorer to
UPS Trend and/or Table may not be possible on some systems. A workaround may be
possible but will need to be considered carefully by each customer in light of potential
security concerns. Contact Support for more information.
7.12 Uniformance Excel Companion Compatibility with Previous Versions
Excel Workbooks created or saved using Uniformance Excel Companion R323.1 are not
backwards compatible with legacy R21x versions of Excel Companion. This is due to the
significant changes needed in Excel Companion for ease of installation, simplifying future
upgrades, and consistency of configuration and operation with UPS.
If you use any advanced function calls in VBA (such as UNIF_function_refresh) then you
will need to modify your code slightly to work with Excel Companion R323.1. See the
section, Migrating Advanced Functions in the Excel Companion User Guide for more
information.
LOCALIZATION, LANGUAGE, AND LOCAL SUPPORT
ups323-1-0scn 21
8 Localization, Language, and Local Support
8.1 Localization
UPS R323.1 supports localization. On a localized UPS system, language, date/time, and
numeric formats can automatically reflect the Locale settings of the logged-in user.
HMIWeb Display Builder also supports localization but is limited to one language per
system.
The localization procedure is documented in the Uniformance Process Studio Localization
Guide. Contact Support to request for this document.
8.2 Support for non-US English Operating System and Office Editions
UPS R323.1 is qualified for use with US English editions of Microsoft Windows, and US
English editions of Microsoft Office.
For a list of non-US English Windows or Office editions that have been qualified by
Honeywell affiliates, refer to HPS Support Online.
INSTALLATION AND MIGRATION
ups323-1-0scn 22
