The bear Story of Honey pieThe bear story of the honey pie starts with a story writer, named Junpei, telling a bed time story to Sala. The story begins with Masakichi who is a small brown bear. Masakichi has the uncanny ability to speak and to count money. He was skilful in getting honey in the woods and this helped him to sell in the town where humans live. He can be said to live as a middle man between humans and bears. Humans think of him as a bear and the bears things of him as a boastful bear and he gets bullied by his own kind. There was a bear named Tonkichi, Which was just later on characterized by Junpei as a big black bear when they one in their trip in the zoo. On their trip to the zoo, Sala asked why is Tonkichi in the zoo and Junpei started to make a story connecting Masakichis. He told him that Tonkichi and Masakichi were friends and used their skill in getting honey, counting money and hunting salmon in the river to sell in the town. One day salmons mysteriously disappeared from the river. Masakichi was kind enough to give half of his profit to Tonkichi. He told him that he would make up to the kindness that Masakichi did to him and decided to roam the mountain to find some salmons, but unfortunately he was caught in a trap and was kept in the zoo by humans. Sala then suggested an ending to Junpeis story. Sala said that people would get tired of only eating honey and they should make honey pie instead to have more profit from their sales and all his earning will be dedicated to free his black bear friend. Junpei said that he would consider the suggestion of Sala in the morning after he proposes to Sayoko.The bear story represents the friendship of Junpei and Takatsuki. Where Junpei is Masakichi and Takatsuki is Tonkichi. When Masakichi was giving the profits he earned to Tonkichi it is like when Junpei was always the one giving opportunities and time to Takatsuki. Another connection is when Junpeis Editor told him that he should write novels instead of short stories. It is connected to the ending of the story that Sala suggested that Masakichi should sell honey pies instead of only honey.
