To recognise the difference between homophones and homonyms To identify and correct homophones in texts To use spelling strategies for commonly misspelt words Slide 4 Learner outcomes are.. Identify correct homophones in sentences Develop and use strategies for accurate spelling Mark/ check work for accuracy in homophone/ spellings Select main points of a text and answer questions Extend existing vocabulary Effectively communicate ideas to the class on individual strategies and ideas Slide 5 Definitions Homonyms They are words which are spelt the same and sound the same but have different meanings. and Slide 6 Definitions Homophones They are words which sound the same but are spelt differently. and Slide 7 More examples of homophones. notknot Slide 8 chillychilli Slide 9 boardbored Slide 10 Tricky stuff Homophones can create confusion. You must check carefully for which one you should use or your work will be incorrect. Use a dictionary to help you when you are not sure. Slide 11 TAG Task: The class will be divided into two groups. Each group will need to write homophones on the white boardin under 5 minutes! GO! Remember: a homophone is a word that sounds the same as another word but is spelt differently and has a different meaning! Slide 12 Easy mistakes.
